Starfield: How to Run from Ship Combat

If you are playing Starfield and want to continue to do so, you will have to learn about your Ship and how everything works. If you ask me, Ships in Starfield could appear really complex, but once you learn everything about them, they get fascinating. Now, since we are talking about Ships, we obviously have to talk about Ship Combat.

Ship Combat in Starfield works excellently. But sometimes, you just want to run away or escape from a ship combat. There could be many reasons for that. You might not be feeling like engaging in a Ship Combat, or the level of the enemy ship in front of you is higher than you can handle. But the problem is, you cannot run away or Fast Travel from a Ship Combat just like that. If you try to do so, you will get a message that says “YOU CANNOT FAST TRAVEL DURING COMBAT“. Here is how you can Escape or Run from a Ship Combat in Starfield:

How to Run Away from Ship Combat

Here is what you need to do to escape Ship Combat:

  1. You need to make sure that you have at least 1 point allocated to “GRV” or your Grav Jump. The more the points, the faster will be your Grav Jump.
  2. If not, just do it as quickly as you can.
  3. I recommend so because if you face a high-level enemy, you will have to do the process before the enemy ship disables your Grav Jump and locks you from escaping.
  4. Once you have 1 or 2 points on your GRV, open your Starmap or Systems Map.
  5. Bring your Mouse or Controller pointer on one of the Stars that you have already explored (they should glow brighter than the others) and Press X (or whatever your Set Course button is) to Set Course.
  6. Do not click on the Star/System; it will lead you to the Planet Screen of the Star, which is useless, as you cannot Fast Travel to any Planet.

  7. After you have Set Course to a nearby Star, hold X (or whatever your Star Jump button is) to Grav Jump to that star.

  8. That is how you will successfully escape from a Ship Combat.

Remember, your Grav Jump won’t happen instantly. In fact, if you have just 1 point allocated to GRV then the Grav Jump could take up to 8 seconds. Your job is trying to stay alive during that period and not get locked.
