There are a bunch of skills in Starfield that make all the difference to the game’s main storyline, and one such skill happens to be “Persuasion”. You will have the option to put this skill to the test pretty early in the game’s campaign, wherein you’ll face the dilemma of whether to kill Brogan or persuade him using your skills.

Kill Brogan or not?
You’ll come across Brogan in the game’s tutorial, where you can either go head-to-head against him or Persuade him to leave peacefully. Brogan is a team leader for a group of Pirates of the Crimson Fleet, and naturally, you will question whether you should go up against a member of the Crimson Fleet right off the bat. Here’s the answer for you!-
I, personally, like chaos and combat. So I obviously picked: “[Attack] Enough talk. I have places to be”, went into combat with Brogan, and absolutely destroyed him. After looting his body, I got a nice Rare pistol.
But if you’ve got the Persuasion skill unlocked. In that case, you should try to Persuade Brogan to leave peacefully, as upgrading the Persuasion skill will take a few attempts to Persuade your enemies in the form of experience. Once you’ve tried to Persuade Brogan into leaving, you can also go head-on against him and his crew for the loot they’re carrying. Spoiler alert: It isn’t worth all the effort.
Persuasion is one of the game’s most useful skills, as it allows you to peacefully talk to your enemy and get out of sticky scenarios without engaging in battle. If you’ve chosen one of the following Starfield Backgrounds, you’ll unlock this particular skill immediately. If not, you’ll still be able to unlock it early by spending one skill point at the social skill tree. You’d be saving a skill point if you’ve picked one of these, but it isn’t very likely to have a huge impact in the long run. Further, there’s a very simple way to know if you have the skill unlocked at this point: by interacting with the NPC. If you see a dialog box that says “Persuade” while interacting with Brogan, you have the skill and might just be able to talk him into changing his mind.
You’ll also have a chance to get a Boost Pack from Brogan’s corpse as a drop; the chances, however, aren’t that great, and nothing’s confirmed as the game has a randomized loot drop system. You will receive a Boost Pack once you’ve completed the very next main story mission, and hence, it isn’t worth the effort to go up against Brogan at this stage. The game’s Randomization doesn’t stop here, though, as there isn’t one preset of correct answers/replies you could give to Brogan to confirm the Persuasion, so it’s a calculated risk at the end of the day.
