How to Heal Thaniel in Baldur’s Gate 3

How to Heal Thaniel BG3 – Once you’ve managed to wake up the sleeping flaming fist mercenary Art Cullagh, as soon as he regains his senses, he will ask your help in retrieving Thaniel, the spirit of the Land. Thaniel, however, suffers from a curse that Ketheric Thorm set. Due to the same, Thaniel is in Shadowfall, and Halsin plans to return Thaniel to their senses.

This, however, is one hell of a task, but don’t worry, as we have you covered, keep reading as we guide you through everything there is to know about how you could heal Thaniel in Baldur’s Gate 3!

How to Heal Thaniel in Baldur’s Gate 3

The plan to help Thaniel regain his senses is divided into two parts. Both involve fighting off a bunch of enemies that are quite frankly weak. However, your party should easily be able to handle both of those hordes with ease at this point. It never really hurts to prepare for what’s coming, though, so here’s an overview of the same:

The first fight is pretty simple; it’ll take place just a little north of the Last Light Inn’s Protective Barrier, and the scenario here is that Halsin will open up a portal into the Shadowfell to retrieve Thaniel. Here, you’ll be required to stand behind the portal and guard it against several waves of enemies provoked upon opening it. You’ll have won the fight if you survive all four waves of enemies charging towards you.

The first wave of this battle will hold several wraiths and shadows approaching from the south and harpers and pilgrims from the north. Once they’re dealt with, Grasping Vines and Ravens will appear next to the barrier. Finally, many more Harpers and Githyanki Warriors will appear from the north, divided into two waves.

To win these fights, make sure that you’re using area-of-effect type spells to their maximum, as they could, be just what you need to get through massive hordes of enemies simultaneously. The majority of your enemies in this battle will have next to none of the hit points, which makes spells like Lightning Bolt and Fireball very lethal. Use as many of these as possible, paired with movement-slowing spells such as Ice Storm or Hunger of Hadar.

Finally, if the portal’s still standing after four waves, Halsin will appear with Thaniel in his arms, and eventually, you’ll be required to make it back to the camp to speak to Halsin. Once you’re back at the camp, upon interacting with Halsin, you’ll find that Thaniel is wounded in a way that only a spirit could be. Ketheric Thorm’s curse has caused Thaniel to be split into two, one part remaining in the Shadow-cursed lands.

After this point, Halsin will join the party as a full-time member rather than just a tag-along. Further, the second half of Thaniel is named Oliver, whom you might’ve stumbled across while exploring the east side of the map. Oliver will want to engage with you in a hide-and-seek game the first time you encounter him. However, players who have already rescued Thaniel can skip this side quest (with the reward, unfortunately).

When you confront Oliver, he’ll get angry and retreat into a portal to the west side of the shadow-cursed lands. To visit such a place, you’ll need the Moonlantern of Pixie Blessing, as the area is under a much stronger version of the Shadow Curse. You must already have Moonlantern or Pixie Blessing, as you’d have needed it while completing the wake-up Art Cullagh quest.

Once players get close enough, Oliver will summon “Daddy” and “Mummy”, two unique wraiths. He will protect himself using a unique barrier- The Nightdome. The Nightdome is immune to Psychic and Necrotic Damage and resists non-magical weapons, Fire, Poison, Acid, Cold, Lightning and Thunder Damage. This leaves you with two potential attacks: Force attacks and Radiant attacks.

Attacking the Nightdome directly shouldn’t be the game plan here as how much damage you cause to the barrier, you’re going to get twice of it inflicted onto you in the process due to its special ability- Cursed Vengeance. Rather, you should attack the two wraiths- “Daddy” and “Mummy” and all the one hit-point friends Oliver summons while battling you. Defeating each parent will inflict 60 damage to the Nightdome, and each friend is dealing 10. You might have to defeat many of these friends, but they go down fast!

Once the Nightdome has fallen, Oliver will surrender, and you can either be nice to him or mean; either way, he has to follow you back to the camp to reunite with Thaniel. Upon returning to the camp, the spirit of the land will be healed. However, the players must still defeat Ketheric Thorm to end the Shadow Curse once and for all.
