Baldur’s Gate 3 Art Cullagh – How to wake him up?

How to wake him up – Art Cullagh is a flaming fist mercenary in Baldur’s Gate 3, sleeping and is the key to saving the Shadow-Cursed Land. However, to make anything happen at that point, you’ll need to wake him up, which is quite a task. Magic and spells will not work.

However, there is another way using which you could do the same. Keep reading as we guide you through everything there is to know!

Baldur’s Gate 3 Art Cullagh – How to wake him up?

If you’ve sided with the refugees and druids in the game’s first act, you can find Halsin, who will be waiting for you at the campsite. He, too, will support the cause as everyone awaits the awakening of Art Cullagh. If you try to speak to Art Cullagh, he’ll end up mentioning a name- Thaniel, which is the name of the Land Spirit. Following the same, Halsin will recognize it and leave the camp to visit the Last Light Inn hastily.

Halsin will soon suggest finding a trigger to help bring Art Cullagh back to his senses, but of course, the trigger is unknown. You should know where to look; Fist J’ehlar, Cullagh’s caretaker, orders Cullagh to investigate the House of Healing (the party’s last order). The House of Healing can be located at the top side of the map (the north end), towards the western side, and before you follow up the same, you’ll need to ensure that you get a Pixie Blessing or a Moonlantern!

investigate the House of Healing

Before you enter the House of Healing, know that the house is Malus Thorm’s territory and business, and you’ll be required to deal with him. Nevertheless, upon confrontation, once you’re there, he will want to run one of his tests on one of the players and upon straight refusal of the same, a boss fight follows. There’s a way to talk out of this, too, so try and do the same!

The room you will be in, the Operation Theater is a large room that has a smaller room with a door that’s locked on either side; blast down or pick those doors to find a book inside the room- Surgery and Philosophy: A Sharran’s Primer. Upon reading the book, you’ll have the best chances of dealing with Malus without combat.

Malus Thorn

Walk up to Malus Thorm and start a conversation rather than just attacking him immediately. If you do this, you’ll have a chance to start an investigation, persuasion or religion to convince Malus not to start dissecting the party immediately. Once that’s done, players will face another check to suggest that Malus practice on himself or the sisters to each other.

Read Malus’ first book to lower the DC for the “Practice on Malus” check from 21 to 18, along with getting an all-new intimidation check. If you complete all of these social roles, you’ll succeed in ending Malus Thorm’s life immediately. However, failing a single check starts a combat between the party, Malus, and the four sisters. Malus has 276 total hit points, but you need to know that he will start multi-attacking once that number falls to 110.

Battered Lute

No matter how you do it, by battling it out or by persuasion, you will get some really good items off of Malus and among those items will be a Battered Lute. You’ll need to take the Battered Lute to Cullagh and wake him up by playing a few notes off of it. Once he wakes up, the quest to “Wake up Art Cullagh” ends!

That pretty much sums up how you could wake up Art Cullagh.
