Call of Duty (COD) Black Ops Cold War – Fatal Error – How to fix

What is the Fatal Error Code in Black Ops Cold War

A Fatal Error is a error code message that is displayed after the game force closes or after a player abruptly gets disconnected from the game. There are a lot of Fatal Errors and there are a lot of reasons behind them. The Fatal Error codes that players have encountered the most so far.

  • Fatal Error – Error code : 0xC0000005
  • Fatal Error – Error code : 5387836043
  • Fatal Error – Error code : 3107840166
  • Fatal Error – Error code : 2346936734
  • Fatal Error – Error code : 140717380511801

While some of these errors are server related errors and can only be fixed from the side of the developers, a lot of them are actually related to the performance of your system.

We ran the game on three gaming PCs in total. Two of them were medium-end gaming PCs and one of them was high-end. From what we discovered, it is safe to say that medium or low end systems are facing these errors the most. We faced a Fatal Error only once on our high-end gaming PC that is running a RTX 2070 Super, Intel i7-8700, 32GB DDR4 3200mhz RAM. And that too because our internet disconnected for a short period of time.

How to fix these Fatal Errors

Update – 2/15/2021

Let me start by saying that I am a regular black ops cold war player. I have already invested more than 200 hours in the game, and it is safe to say that this has been my main game for the past 2 months. However, a few weeks ago I started experiencing the Fatal Error. For me, it was the Fatal Error – Error code : 0xC0000005. It wouldn’t even let me finish a single match. I was crashing left and right.

I tried everything and, by everything, I literally mean everything. A few days ago, I thought that I have successfully managed to fix the issue by getting my internet connection fixed. Unfortunately, the issue came back again. I had almost given up at that point.

Yesterday, I was browsing the Black Ops Cold War Reddit for some content for my website. That is when I came by a post where a user was asking for help regarding the same error I was getting. There were hundreds of comments on the post. After scrolling for a bit, I saw that a guy has posted the location where Black Ops Cold War stores it’s Error Logs and how you can find out which programs are causing the Fatal Errors from these logs.

I booted up my PC immediately after seeing that and went to that directory. The location (for my pc) is : Local Disk (C:) > Users > My Username > AppData > Local > Activision > Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War > crash_reports

I found a bunch of compressed files there. I sorted everything by date and opened the latest one. Inside the file I saw a text file called dxdiag_crash.txt. I opened it and started reading the whole thing. After scrolling for a while, I came by the “Diagnostics” section, inside the text file only. Under the Diagnostics section, there was something called “Problem Signature”. And under Problem Signature, a process called DtsApo4Service.exe was mentioned. Here is what it looked like:

I googled the name of that process and found out that the process is something called DTS Audio Processing Object. Then I remembered that my Logitech G733 Gaming Headset has DTS. That is when I went ahead and unplugged my headset and also uninstalled the Logitech software. Guess what! The Fatal Error issue got fixed! I plugged my headset back but didn’t install the software this time (G733 can run without a software). I haven’t crashed since then.

I am not saying that what worked for me is going to work for you. That is why you need to check the crash reports on your PC and find out which program is causing the game to crash.

Now people might think that the fix to these errors might be very complex. The funny thing is, it is not. This fix is extremely easy and silly. Here is what you need to do.

Set your windows operating language to English (United states), and then restart your computer. Then you just launch the game and it works. Yes that is it!

But what if your language is already English? Well in that case, just switch it to something else and then log out of Windows. Once you’re done that then switch your pc and keyboard language back to English, and it should work.

And the best part is, these fixes have been confirmed by members of the community. This Reddit post on the official Black Ops Cold War Reddit will tell you what is going on.

If by chance the fix mentioned above doesn’t end up working for you, then you can try some steps listed here.

Update

I am a regular COD Black Ops Cold War player and I started getting the Fatal Error suddenly a few days ago. It was happening constantly for me, I couldn’t even finish a single match without getting crashed with the Fatal Error. Fortunately, I have a dual monitor setup, which allows me to monitor stuff while I am in a game. What I noticed was, as soon as my connection bar in Discord was going from green to red, the Fatal Error was taking place. So I decided to ping my IP and play the game simultaneously. And let me tell you what I found. Apparently, Black Ops Cold War doesn’t like connections that get frequent “Request timed out”. 9 out of 10 times when my game crashed due to this Fatal Error, I noticed a Request Timed Out.

So I called my Internet Service Provide, go my connection fixed. And guess what? I haven’t had a Fatal Error even once in the last 3-4 days. My PC specifications are still the same. Ryzen 5600x paired with RTX 2060 Super and 16 GB of RAM (3200 mhz). Therefore, make sure that your connection is fine.

I would also like you to check this Reddit post and see what is going on after the February 4 Firebase Z update. People are getting Fatal Error left right. The post has more than 5000 upvotes.

If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then the best option would be contacting the support. I would suggest that you take a look at the official Black Ops Cold War Reddit. You will find a lot of players discussing these exact same issues.
