Best Background in Starfield – Which one should you pick?

At the character creation menu, you will get a ton of customization options for your character. Yes, there are features that you can change which won’t affect your game that much. But then there are those features that will change the way you play the game, depending on your selection. “Background” is one of them. Background is nothing but “Class” in a complex form. Basically when you are choosing your Background in Starfield, you are actually picking your class. And if you are a fan of RPG games then you should know how important Class Selection can be. Therefore, in this article, I will tell you what I think is the best Background to start Starfield with.

Which Background should you pick in Starfield?

Before I go and tell you that, first, you need to know about the different starting Backgrounds in Starfield. We have an extremely detailed article regarding that, where our writers have charted all the Starting Skills inside a table, so that you can easily understand everything. Check it out once, and then come back here.

Assuming that you have checked out all the skills of the different Backgrounds in Starfield, let me now tell you which Background is the best for the early game.

In my opinion, Soldier is the best Background you can pick in Starfield for Early Game. Let me tell you why. It is the combination of the skills of this Background. Here are the starting skills of the Soldier Background:

  • Fitness: You have 10% more Lung Capacity
  • Ballistics: You do +10% damage with Ballistic Weapons.
  • Boost Pack Training: You can now utilize boost packs or jetpack.

It is the combination of Fitness and Boost Pack Training, that makes Soldier so good for early game. One thing I absolutely hate in Open World games is running out of Stamina, and in a game like Starfield where you will be exploring different Planets a lot, that +10 Lung Capacity or Oxygen Capacity could sometimes prove to be godsent. You won’t have to think about losing your breath when you are in the middle of an intense combat.

And for the second skill that makes this Background so good. I mean, with Boost Pack Training, you literally get jetpacks, which means you will be able to easily reach locations that are otherwise hard to reach. Of course, you get Boost Pack Training on the Bounty Hunter Background, as well. But the other skills are not that impressive. I will be honest; at the start, I am not really interested in skills that benefit my ships.

Now, regarding the Ballistics skill, I am not really a fan because you don’t come by as many Ballistic Weapons at the start of the game. But, you win some, you lose some, I guess.

For my second playthrough, though, after I have gotten more into ships(LOL), I am planning to go with the File Not Found Background. The File Not Found Background has the Wellness skill, which straight up gives you +10% maximum health, and HP-related skills in RPG games are a no-brainer. Not only that, it has Piloting, as well, which allows me to use my Ship Thrusters, using which I will be zooming and thooming across different planets.

That is all I have regarding the best Background in Starfield. If you think there is a Background that is better than Soldier, then feel free to let your fellow gamers know in the comment section below.

That’s all, folks!
