Starfield: How to Investigate The Source of The Anomaly in Into The Unknown

Starfield, the most anticipated game of the year that has kept its fans on their toes, is finally out, and its hype is immense! When one talks about investigating the source of the anomaly part of the game, which is one of the game’s main story quests, the game features, by far, the most mysterious mechanics and objectives.  The title usually holds and, for the most part, is self-explanatory as to what needs to be done. However, this is one of those where this does not happen.

The ‘Investigate the source of the anomaly’ objective comes during or in the middle of the game’s main story quest, ‘Into the Unknown’. Upon arriving on the planet Procyon III, players look for the anomaly, and the game makes sure that players know they will have to look for it by themselves. If you want to find out or are struggling, you have come looking at the right place. Keep reading to find out all that needs to be done!

How to Investigate The Source of The Anomaly in Into The Unknown Mission

Follow the steps mentioned below to find/investigate the source of the anomaly in Starfield and also complete the mission:

  1. After players arrive at the planet Procyon III, they need to head eastwards, where they would find the source of the anomaly being located in the Temple Eta.

  2. Then, players need to pull up their scanners. For a controller, players must press the LB button, while those on their mouse/keyboard need to press the F key. Players must pay attention to the white circle around their screen’s middle. We already know that this scanner is to scan flora and fauna, and the object must be scanned within this circle.
  3. Remember that we are not trying to scan something, but rather looking for the source of the anomaly. So, players need to stand still and start scanning around themselves.
  4. Players will find that the circle starts to get distorted and shake at some point, and even some red will show. This direction, where such happens, is where players will find the anomaly. Remember not to move too fast; it might be easy to miss this.

  5. Once this direction is found, players must gradually start moving towards it. Keep the scanner up, as players might easily veer off the direction.
  6. Between the rocks, players will have to look out for a door. A mechanism will start to move as they keep moving, allowing entry into the temple.

What to do inside the Temple?

  1. When inside, players find that they are in a chamber that is zero gravity and has, in its center, a rotating artifact. Players can float all around here, going up and down.
  2. As the players travel, they will see something intriguing: a few clusters of concentrated and developing stars.
  3. To complete the puzzle, players must float through these star clusters developed between them at least 15 times.

  4. This process must be repeated until they get the artifact in the center and switch it on fully. Players must act quickly; these lights reset if they take too much time. Once the artifact reaches its maximum power capacity, players see it will stop rotating. When such happens, players need to fly into it. Following this, players finally unlock the ability of the Anti-gravity Field.
  5. Head back to the Lodge to find Vladimir. A small cutscene is triggered.
  6. Following this, players need to select the newly unlocked power of the anti-gravity field and activate it. The mission requires players to use this ability in front of Vladimir. Use the power by pressing the Z button.
  7. After doing this, a small cutscene prompts again, following which the mission is complete.
