COD MW3 safe mode bug – Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is finally here, and I can confidently say that the Multiplayer experience feels way better than that of Modern Warfare 2.
But the problem is, Modern Warfare 3, in its current state, is riddled with bugs and errors. The one I am talking about in this article is the Safe Mode bug. This bug has existed since the launch of MW 2019, and I am surprised to see that the devs have not been able to take care of it in 5 years. Anyway, here is what you can do.
What to do if you are getting the Safe Mode Bug in COD MW3
To answer that, first, we have to know what actually is the “Safe Mode” bug. It is a bug that is causing the “Safe Mode” message box to pop up randomly every time the players launch the game. The message says:
Run in Safe Mode?
It appears that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 did not quit properly the last time it ran. Do you want to run the game in safe mode?
This is recommended for most people. It will change your system settings but not your controls.
In the previous COD titles, this bug used to surface when the player had witnessed a crash. But in MW3, the safe mode message pops up randomly, even if the player quit the game normally the last time. If you choose to run the game in safe mode, then the game will just start with the settings recommended by the game. You will lose all your presets.
How to fix the Safe Mode bug
I am using a gaming rig that has an RTX 4070 Ti, Intel i7 13700F, 32 GB DDR5 6000mhz RAM, and a 2 TB Samsung 970 Evo SSD. So you can be sure that this bug is not happening because of your system hardware. With that being said, whenever the game asks me whether I want to run Modern Warfare 3 in Safe Mode or not, I just select “No”. If you do this, the game will start normally without making any changes to your settings. That’s it. That’s the fix. That is all you have to do.
Now, if you have already clicked Yes and wondering how to get out of Safe Mode, then let me tell you it is very easy.
Here is how to do it.
- Start the game in safe mode.
- Go to Settings > Graphics.
- Change Display Mode to Fullscreen.
- Go to the Quality tab, and change the Render Resolution back to 100.
- Select the resolution that is the native resolution of your monitor.
- Make sure Aspect Ratio is set to Automatic.
- You will also notice that your Quality settings have been set to the lowest possible presets. Set them back to their original values.
- Click on Apply Settings
But if the game is constantly exiting for you, and you are getting the ‘Safe Mode’ message constantly. Then there is something wrong, and you need to fix the game. I, myself, have fixed this bug by setting by quality settings to very low and then Restarting the Shaders Pre-loading from the Display Tab.
You can also try downloading the latest drivers for COD MW3. Both Nvidia and AMD have released their latest graphics card drivers, bringing launch-day support for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. You can download them from the links given below:
Finally, you can always try repairing the game via the Battle.net app or verify the MW3 files via Steam.
If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then the best option would be contacting support. I would suggest that you take a look at the official Modern Warfare 3 Reddit. You will find a lot of players discussing these exact same issues.
That’s all, folks!
