Is the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 crashing immediately after launch for you? Don’t worry, here is how to fix it.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2) – Game Crashes after launch – How to fix
Why Red Dead Redemption 2 is crashing after launch
Well, the problem seems to be related to the Rockstar Game Launcher. People are already experiencing issues like lag, the exited unexpectedly error, audio bugs, etc. And a lot of these issues are being caused by the launcher.
The problem is more prominent for the Rockstar Games Launcher users and the Epic Games Launcher users are not facing as many issues. Now, I have already faced crashes twice on PC and I am using a gaming rig that has a RTX 2060 Super, Intel i7 8700, 16 GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM and a 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD. So the crashes have nothing to do with your system hardware.
How to fix the crashes
The reason of crashing can be different for different users. The reason for the crashes on my system might not be similar to yours. So I am including all the fixes that users themselves have claimed to be working so far.
Update your graphics driver
If you didn’t know Nvidia and AMD have already released drivers bringing launch-day support for Red Dead Redemption 2.
You can download them from the links given below:
Verify the in-game files (Epic Games Launcher users)
If you are an Epic Games user then you have the option to verify the game. This feature will allow the launcher to scan the game folder and find out the missing or corrupted files. If your game is missing any valuable file then the launcher will download that file.
- Launch Epic Games Launcher
- Go to you Library
- Click on the Settings icon below Red Dead Redemption 2
- Click on Verify
- Wait for the process to finish
- Restart the launcher
Lower your in-game graphics settings
Here is our complete guide to best or optimal graphics settings for Red Dead Redemption 2. We have tried various combinations and decided to go with the one that suits our medium end gaming rig the most.
Avoid Overclocking
Overclocking GPUs has become a very common reason for crashes in games nowadays. If by any chance you are witnessing random crashes and freezes in Red Dead Redemption 2 then chances are it is being caused by an overclocking application or utility running in the background. A lot of games have been suffering from crashes lately due to applications like MSI Afterburner or Zotac firestorm. So it is best to stay on the safe side and run your graphics card on default speeds.
That’s all folks!
