One of the most anticipated games of 2019, Red Dead Redemption 2 has finally made its way to the PC platform and we have to say that everything about the game feels awesome so far.

Unfortunately, the game is not completely free from performance issues. People have already started reporting about problems like lag, crashes, black screen issue, different bug & glitches, etc. But today we are here to talk about a bug that is quite a serious one and is giving trouble to a huge portion of the community.

What is the Exited Unexpectedly Error in Red Dead Redemption 2

It is a bug that is causing the players to crash whenever they are trying to launch the game and a message is being displayed that says : Red Dead Redemption 2 exited unexpectedly – Please click Retry below to enter the game again, or click Safe Mode to launch the game with reduced graphics settings.

You get three options : OK, RETRY, SAFE MODE

How to fix Red Dead Redemption 2 exited unexpectedly error

Okay let me start by saying that I have witnessed this bug a lot of times so far on my personal PC. I am using a gaming rig that has a RTX 2060 Super, Intel i7 8700, 16 GB DDR4 3000mhz RAM and a 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD. So you can be sure that this bug not is happening because of your system hardware.

Every time I got this error, I clicked on Retry and the game started normally. Now if this doesn’t work for you then here are some straightforward fixes that have already been proven to work for a lot of users:

Update your graphics driver

If you didn’t know Nvidia and AMD have already released drivers bringing launch-day support for Red Dead Redemption 2.

Verify the in-game files

If you are an Epic Games user then you have the option to verify the game. This feature will allow the launcher to scan the game folder and find out the missing or corrupted files. If your game is missing any valuable file then the launcher will download that file.

  • Launch Epic Games Launcher
  • Go to you Library
  • Click on the Settings icon below Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Click on Verify
  • Wait for the process to finish
  • Restart the launcher
