Hood Outlaws & Legends PC – How to fix Lag, FPS Drops and Stuttering

Hood lag, fps drops and stuttering – This guide will show you how to fix lag, low fps and stuttering issues in Hood: Outlaws & Legends PC.

Hood Outlaws & Legends PC – How to fix Lag, FPS Drops and Stuttering

It is obvious that Hood is an AAA title and that too completely online. Most of the AAA titles released in 2021, have not been free from issues. The majority had horrible performance issues during the first month of their release. Well, unfortunately Hood suffers the same fate. It has its fair share of bugs and errors. In the PC version of Hood: Outlaws & Legends, players are facing issues like lag, fps drops and stuttering. So I decided to make a list consisting of the errors and some solutions for them.

Is your system capable enough to run Hood smoothly

Give the system requirements of Hood a quick look before you move further into the guide:

Minimum [40 FPS, 1920×1080 on Low settings]:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD FX 6300 X6 / Intel Core i5-3570K
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 2 GB VRAM, Radeon HD 7870 / GeForce GTX 660
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 40 GB available space

Recommended [60 FPS, 1920×1080 on Ultra settings]:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 / Intel Core i5-8600K
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM

Tweak Graphics Settings

This is the first thing you should do as soon as to start the game and get access to the Graphics settings menu. I know a lot of people still don’t pay attention to the graphics settings in games. But trust me, they should. This is the easiest method to squeeze out a few extra FPS and performance from any gaming title.

There is a huge chance that there isn’t any issue with your game at all. And the lag is being caused by the Graphics Settings of the game, set too High. In that case, here are the graphics settings that I would recommend for Hood Outlaws & Legends (Hood has PvP besides PvE, and playing PvP titles at high settings is never recommended):

  • Resolution : 1920×1080
  • Window Mode : Full Screen
  • Vsync : Off
  • Motion Blur : Off (Never turn this on)
  • Texture Quality : Medium
  • Shadow Quality : Low
  • LOD Distance : Low
  • Grass Density : Low (This actually allows you to get a slight advantage)
  • Post Process Quality : Low (Your opponents at a distance will start appearing blurry if you turn this setting up)

I have tested the game with these settings on GTX 1650, and I was getting more than 60 FPS on majority of the areas.

I am guessing that you are using Discord

Since Hood is a PvPvE title, I am guessing that a lot of players are playing it with their friends. And I am pretty sure that they are using Discord as their mode of communication. So, it is recommended that you make few tweaks in order to stop Discord from reducing the performance of your system.

This is something that I have experienced personally. On my previous gaming rig, that had a RTX 2060 Super, i5 8400, and 16 GB of RAM, Discord initially put me through a really tough time. In that case, Here is what you need to do:

  1. Launch Discord
  2. Go to User Setting
  3. Click on Voice & Video from the left sidebar
  4. Scroll down to Advanced section
  5. Disable “OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco System, Inc.”
  6. Turn off “H.264 Hardware Acceleration”
  7. Scroll down a bit more and disable “Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority”
  8. Now click on Advanced from the left sidebar
  9. Disable Hardware Acceleration
  10. Restart Discord

Gaming Laptops with 2 GPUs (Nvidia)

If you are using a laptop that has a dedicated Nvidia GPU then make sure that your laptop is using the dedicated GPU and not the integrated one.

  1. Right-click on the background of the Windows Desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Select Manage 3D settings under 3D Settings from Select a Task….
  3. Click on the Program Settings tab under I would like to use the following 3D settings:
  4. Click on the Add button under ‘Select a program to customize’
  5. Navigate to Steam > steamapps > common > Hood > Hood > Binaries > Win64
  6. Select Hood.exe application and click on the Open button
  7. Select High-performance NVIDIA processor under ‘Select the preferred graphics processor for this program’
  8. Click on the Apply button, and close the NVIDIA Control Panel

Closing Background applications and utilities

Third-party applications running in the background (CCleaner Smart Cleaning, Overwolf, f.lux, etc.) may interfere with Hood: Outlaws & Legends. Please temporarily disable these applications and search which application is interfering with the game:

  1. Right-click on the Windows Start button > Task Manager
  2. Click on the Startup tab (click on More details to display the tabs)
  3. Restart the computer

Background Recording

Turn it off by heading over to the “Gaming” settings located inside the Windows Settings menu. There you should find something called “Captures” on the left. Click on it and disable the Background Recording feature inside it.

Also, if you are using the GeForce Experience application from Nvidia. Make sure that you do not have Instant Replay on.

Certain overlays could cause micro-stutters

Disable every single overlay that you have on right now. Overlays from applications like Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience, Steam, etc, are known to cause issues in online games. So disable all of them.

Note : Every method included in this article has been recommended by the developers themselves. If none of these end up working for you then you can try Focus technical support.
