The game is finally available, and fans of souls-like games are enjoying it at the moment. But as every AAA title release goes nowadays, Wo Long is filled with technical issues at the moment on PC.
A good amount of players are either not being able to launch Wo Long, or the game is immediately crashing for them after starting. Good thing, that KOEI TECMO has already recommended some fixes for that.
Fix Wo Long Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup
Here is how you can fix the crashing and launch issues in Wo Long:
Make sure your system is meeting the requirements of Wo Long
You need to make sure that your PC is capable enough to handle Wo Long. Check out the recommended requirements:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows® 10, Windows® 11, 64bit
- Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-8400, AMD Ryzen™ 5 3400G
- Memory: 8 GB RAM

Make sure you at least have Windows 10 version 18362.0 or higher
Wo Long does not support Windows 7 or 8.1. Windows 10 64-bit is mandatory. And the OS version should be at least 18362.0.
If you don’t know how to check your Windows build, then all you have to do is:
- Type winver on your Windows Search Bar
- Click on the first application that shows up on top
- Your build details will pop up in a small window. It should look something like this:
You have to log in to Windows with your primary email
You have to make sure that you are logged in to Windows with the same email that you have used to register on the Xbox App. If you have done so, then you should get a message before your PC launches Wo Long. It will say that Wo Long is trying to access your Xbox App details. Accept it, and the game should launch.
Repair Wo Long to fix crashes (For Xbox app users)
If you are playing Wo Long on the Xbox app on your Windows 11 or 10 PC, then you can actually repair the game. This will fix the game if there are any sorts of missing or broken files. Here is how to do it:
- Open your Xbox app
- Click on ‘My Library’.
- Click on ‘Manage Installs,’ located in the top-right corner.
- Select the ‘Manage’ button beside Wo Long.
- Now click on the ‘Files’ tab.
- Select ‘Verify and Repair’.
- As soon as you do so, the verification process will start, and the Xbox app will try to re-download any corrupted or missing game files.
To do the same thing on Steam:
- Go to your Steam Library.
- Right-click on Wo Long.
- Select Properties.
- Click on the Local Files tab.
- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
A Selective Startup can help you detect the reason behind the crashing
Third-party applications running in the background may interfere with Wo Long. A Selective Startup can also help diagnose whether a background application is resulting in your issue. This can be performed by:
- Enter msconfig into the search box.
- Click on System Configuration from the results.
- Tick Selective Startup under the General tab.
- Untick Load startup items and click OK.
- Restart the computer.
- Run Wo Long.
If the issue no longer persists after having performed the Selective Startup, you will need to re-enable each of your usual background applications one-by-one until the error reoccurs to determine which is interfering with Wo Long.
Make sure Microsoft Gaming Services is updated on your PC
Check for updates to the Microsoft Gaming Services in the Downloads section of the Microsoft Store.
Download the February 2023 Windows Cumulative update
Windows launched a cumulative update for Windows 10 and 11 and an update for .NET Framework on February 2023. If you have not downloaded the latest update, yet. You should do so. Always ensure that you have the latest updates to Windows:
- WINDOWS 10: Right-click on the Windows Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- WINDOWS 11: Right-click on the Windows Start button > Settings > Windows Update.
Download the latest drivers to ensure stability
It is recommended to perform a clean installation of the display driver. Use DDU to properly uninstall the display driver.
DDU or Display Driver Uninstaller is a driver removal utility that can help you completely uninstall AMD/NVIDIA graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind (including registry keys, folders, and files, driver store).
Allow Wo Long in Windows Security
- Click on the up arrow icon in the taskbar notification area.
- Right-click on Windows Security > View security dashboard.
- Click on Virus & threat protection.
- Click on Protection history under Current threats.
- Search the WoLong.exe application from Protected folder access blocked.
- Click on Actions > Allow on device.
- Close Windows Security.
Re-install or Repair MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ 2015-2022 REDISTRIBUTABLE
If you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. Then please try downloading and installing the latest version of Visual Studio, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.
- Download the latest version of Visual Studio from the following link: Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64).
- Once you have downloaded the file, right click on vc_redist.x86.exe and select “Run as administrator.”
- Click on the Install or the Repair button.
- Restart the computer if requested.
Use the System File Checker
Use the SYSTEM FILE CHECKER TOOL to repair missing or corrupted system files.
