Fix Suicide Squad Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup

Suicide Squad won’t launch and crash – After much anticipation, the awaited “superhero” game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, is out across all major gaming platforms. The game does come with some technical issues. But that is expected from game releases nowadays.

How to fix Suicide Squad Won’t Launch and Crashing at Startup issue

Suicide Squad won’t launch for some Steam users, as it stops responding after they press the “Play” button on Steam. Suicide Squad is also crashing for some users. Though a few are able to start the game, it is crashing after a few seconds, and for some Suicide Squad is straight up crashing at startup, before they even make it to the main menu. The good thing is that many people from the community have already recommended some fixes for that.

Suicide Squad Crashing and won't launch

Download and Install the GeForce Game Ready Driver v551.23

Nvidia has already released a GPU driver for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The driver has been specifically optimized for Suicide Squad and some other titles. The driver version is 551.23, released on 01/24/2024. Check out the release notes:

This new Game Ready Driver provides the best gaming experience for the latest new games supporting DLSS 3 technology including Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Further support for new titles leveraging NVIDIA DLSS technology includes the launch of Enshrouded, TEKKEN 8, and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League which support DLSS Super Resolution.

You can download and install the driver directly via the GeForce Experience app, or you can download it manually from this link.

Try Upgrading or Downgrading your AMD Driver

Since AMD has not released any driver for Suicide Squad, you can just try downgrading or upgrading your driver. Doing this will refresh your drivers and might fix your crashes. Pick your suitable driver from here.

Suicide Squad needs Build 1909 or higher of Windows 10 64-bit to run

Suicide Squad KTJL does not support Windows 7 or 8.1. Windows 10 64-bit is mandatory. And the OS Build should be at least 1909.

If you don’t know how to check your Windows build, then all you have to do is:

  1. Press Windows+R on your keyboard
  2. Type “winver” inside the empty box
  3. Press Enter

Your build details will pop up in a small window.

[Gaming Laptop users] Make sure your system is not using your Integrated GPU

I remember facing the same issue with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. After purchasing the laptop and bringing it home, I realized that it was severely underperforming. In some games, I was literally capped at 30 FPS, despite the laptop having a Ryzen 7 5800H and RTX 3060. That is when I found the Vantage app on my laptop, and I disabled something called the “Hybrid Mode”, shown on the app. I restarted my laptop, and it immediately started giving me the performance that it is built for.

If you are using an Nvidia GPU, and you do not have a MUX Switch, here is what you need to do:

  1. In Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to Manage 3D settings.
  3. Select Global Settings.
  4. Then, under “Preferred graphics processor”, select High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Your Anti-virus software might be blocking the Suicide Squad executable file

Anti-virus software, these days, ask for access at Kernel level, which can affect disk and network operations, which can cause games to crash, or prevent them from launching. Some games also use copy protection technology that can appear as malicious software to an AV scanner, resulting in potential false-positive alerts. Try disabling your Anti-Virus software temporarily and then try to launch Suicide Squad. It may also be necessary to add exceptions for the game in your AV configuration.

Give administrator privileges to Suicide Squad

Try to run the executable file or exe file of Suicide Squad as admin. Here is how to do it:

  1. Go to the Installation folder of Suicide Squad.
  2. Right-Click on the .exe file.
  3. Go to the Compatibility tab.
  4. Check “Run this program as an administrator.”

If you don’t know where to find the executable file, just go to your Steam Library > Select Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League > Click on the Settings button on the right > Manage > Browse Local files.

Extras

Here are some extra things you can do just to be sure:

  • Disable Steam overlay or other overlays(GFE, AMD Adrenalin, Discord, etc.,)
  • Verify the files (Probably won’t do anything. Nothing wrong in trying though)
  • Re-install (The last thing you should try)
