Apex Legends – Low FPS on Main Menu for Steam users – How to fix

Apex Legends main menu lag – It looks like people who downloaded Apex Legends on Steam are getting extremely low fps when they are at the Main Menu. Is this a bug? If it is, then is there a fix? Let’s find out.

Apex Legends – Low FPS on Main Menu for Steam users – How to fix

Apex Legends arrived on Steam with the Season 7 update and a lot of people who were using Origin previously, shifted to Steam because of the user friendliness of the launcher. A lot of people who have not played Apex Legends at all, are trying it because it is on Steam.

But there is a problem, Apex Legends has been on Origin since it’s release back in early 2019. And the developers took really long to make the game run perfectly on that launcher. Now that it is on a completely new launcher, you know what that means. New bugs and glitches.

A new bug has popped up that is causing Steam users to get extremely low fps and lag while they are at the Main Menu of the game. While for some the situation isn’t too bad with 30 fps in the Main Menu, some are getting only 5-6 fps. Which if you ask me, is pretty horrible. So is there a fix to this bug?

How to fix the Main Menu lag

First of all, is this really a bug? Yes this is a bug and the developers have confirmed it. They are already working on a fix and a patch should be out soon. But when Respawn says “soon”, you don’t trust them. I have been playing Apex since the very first day of it’s launch, and one thing I have prominently learnt over the years, is to never trust Respawn. Don’t get me wrong, they are good devs but they are extremely slow.

So are you suppose to wait until the devs release a fix? I guess not. There is a fix for this bug and it is kind of bizarre in my opinion. It looks like people who have too many friends on their Steam account are experiencing this bug. They larger is your friend list, they lower your fps is going to be. The only way to increase your fps on the Main Menu is by deleting friends from your friend list and making the list smaller. I mean, I have around 20 friends on my Steam and I am not facing any fps drops, and it is locked at 144 fps for me.

I know this is probably not the solution you were looking for but this is something that should be addressed by Respawn as fast as possible.

On the other hand, if you are facing performance issues outside the main menu in Apex Legends, then you can always try my Apex Legends Performance Guide.
