Assassin’s Creed (AC) Valhalla – Unwelcome Quest Bug – Stuck after Cutscene – How to fix

What is this bug all about?

AC Valhalla is filled with quests, big and small. And they are all are pretty different from each other. Quests in games like AC Valhalla do the job of educating players about the mechanics and the lore of the game. Without them a RPG title is incomplete.

But it looks like the ‘Unwelcome’ quest is stopping a lot of people from progressing in the game. Players are getting stuck after a cutscene where the characters won’t move at all. Pressing keys on the keyboard is of no help. There are already a ton of posts regarding this on the Ubisoft Forums. Here is what the user, who was the first person to post about this bug, has to say:

Unable to progress with “Unwelcome”

After the cutscene where you untie and free the captives the screen go black and loads for a few mins and when it does finally load myself as the player the jarl and dag are all huddled in the middle of the room while being unable to move or do anything at all. Now i have tried verifying the files and clean install of Valhalla and a clean install of Ubisoft connect but noting works please help.

The post got a lot of replies from other users who are experiencing something similar. Here is one of them:

I can’t play the game after clearing a quest ‘Unwelcome’. My character was stuck with sygurd and the other in one place. And can’t use a map, syrin, inventory… anything. Is this Open-beta service of full-price game? When can you guys support hot-fix?

How to fix this bug?

Fortunately, there is a fix for this bug and a lot of users have confirmed that it works. Ubisoft Forum user /xzxz5011 was the first person to suggest this fix. And here is how to fix this bug:

  1. After you get stuck, quit to the Title Screen
  2. Now load to your most recent Save
  3. One you are in, go to options
  4. Change the Graphics Quality to Ultra High
  5. Apply the changes and restart the game
  6. Now click on Continue
  7. Go back the Longhouse again and start the cutscene
  8. Do not press any button while the cutscene is playing
  9. If you have done everything right then you should be able to move after the cutscene ends

This fix immediately got a lot of attention and more and more users started replying to the post. Here are some of the replies.

Oh! I’ve got this..!

  1. Ultra option is not necessary. Just changing video options worked.

In my case, I changed the option from medium to low quality. 😕

An Ubisoft Support Staff also went ahead and commented on the post:

Thank you for providing that.

We are aware of this issue occurring, and the team are currently looking into this issue.

We believe this is related to the World Details option, so please try changing this option specifically.
