Call of Duty (COD) Black Ops Cold War (BOCW) – Safe Mode bug – How to fix

What is the Safe Mode bug in COD Black Ops Cold War

It is a bug that is causing the “Safe Mode” message box to pop up every time the players launch the game after it has experienced a crash. The message says:

You game did not shut down properly during your last session, would you like to start in Safe Mode?

Note: Safe mode will change you Graphics Settings

This message shows up if the game had exited abruptly previously due to some reason. No matter what the reason behind it is, the game will always think that the exit was due to the change in the game settings. And if you choose to run the game in safe mode then the game will just start with the settings recommended by the game.

How to fix the Safe Mode bug

Okay, let me start by saying that I have witnessed this bug a lot of times so far on my personal PC. I am using a gaming rig that has an RTX 2060 Super, Intel i5 9400f, 16 GB DDR4 3200mhz RAM, a 2 TB 7200 RPM HDD and a 256 GB SSD. So you can be sure that this bug not is happening because of your system hardware. With that being said, whenever I got asked whether I want to start the game in Safe Mode or not, I selected “No change” and the game booted normally without any issue. So just select No Change and you should be alright.

Now if you have already clicked Yes and wondering how to get out of Safe Mode, then let me tell you it is very easy.

How to disable Safe Mode

Here is how to do it.

  • Start the game in safe mode

  • Make sure Aspect Ratio is set to Automatic
