Starfield Save and Config File Location

Starfield is finally available, and everyone is enjoying the game to the fullest. The game is already a success, right from the early access. Two of the most common technical items that one might need to look for while playing the game are Save and Configuration files. However, finding these files is not an easy task, and one has to have a good knowledge of navigating PC drives to locate them. The good news is that we have already done the hard work for you. This guide will help you locate your Starfield Save and Config (or Configuration) file location on your PC.

Starfield Save File Location

Here is where the Starfield Save files are located by default:

  • C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Starfield\Saves

You will find plenty of files inside the folder. All of those files are your save files. This is how they should look like:

Starfield Config File Location

Here is where the Starfield Config files are located by default:

  • C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Starfield\

The config file is called “StarfieldPrefs” and it is a Configuration Settings file. You should be able to edit it using Notepad.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to change a whole in the config file, as the file only allows you to change a handful of settings. It includes:

  • Resolution Scaling
  • Upscaling
  • Film Grain Density
  • Vsync
  • Dynamic Resolution
  • Render Quality
  • Motion Blur
  • Shadows
  • AMD CAS Sharpness

That’s it. You won’t be able to change anything else. I would have loved an FOV setting here, but sadly, we didn’t get one. Also, I did try looking at other locations since I have the game both on Steam and on the Xbox app. But this was the only config file I could find. I was really hoping to find some good settings to tweak here, since the performance of the game is really not that good. Anyway, this is all we have, as of now.

Note: Although the Config file is editable, we strongly suggest that you don’t try to edit it unless, of course, you are familiar with the Config file coding and are absolutely confident that whatever changes you make will not cause the game to break.

So, that is all on “Starfield Save and Config File Location.” If you think this guide has helped you, then let us know in the comment section below. Also, you can check out our other guides on Starfield. Good luck.

That’s all, folks!
