Starfield: How to Mod Weapons

There are four categories when talking about moddable equipment in the game Starfield. They are Helmets, Packs, Spacesuits and, of course, weapons. Characters of players, too, in the game can wear apparel. Sadly, though, this is not moddable as this is mostly cosmetic, and just a bunch of them affect a character’s stats. Note that not all the equipment can be modded; for example, at the start of the game, the Cutter mining laser you acquire is a weapon whose looks can be modded but not its stats.

How to Mod Weapons in Starfield

Firstly, to be able to mod weapons in Starfield, players need to visit a few specific crafting stations in-game. As for weapons, players need to head to a Weapon Workbench, while in the case of Helmets, Packs and Spacesuits, players will have to head to a Spacesuit Workbench. Players can easily find them in most of the cities in the game. However, there is a more convenient way to access them.

Suppose a player wants to access workbenches while on the ship; they need to add to their vessel a Galactic Workshop. Players can find these in the Ship Builder Mode, under the Structural tab, when they visit a ship technician in a spaceport. If this is getting difficult, they can try using the “Previous Variant” or the “Next Variant” options. This is because there are additional components within the tabs of certain ship pieces.

If players have space, then they should also, on their ship, build a Science lab to give them access to both a Pharmaceutical lab and a Research lab. These will help complete a player’s item creation and modding ship.

Requirements for Modding Weapons in Starfield

Sadly, in the game, straight off the bat, players cannot mod everything. To mod weapons, players will be required to make use of the resources to build and install them. We suggest that the best thing that players do is pick up any item they get in the field, which has a tab saying that it is used for crafting, and then store it on their main ship. We recommend this because this way, players will have quick access to the required resources while modding their gear as the game, from their cargo hold, would pull them straight.

Moreover, players will also be required to have a few skills to build certain mods in the game. All four previously mentioned categories of moddable items have their own set of skills, so in short, it would take players quite a while before they can get their hands on the best mods. Even without the best mods in the game, with the basic mods, players can still boost their armor and weapons. This proves to be of great help in situations where players find items they intend to hold on to for quite some time.

Investing in gear mods is worth it, and more so during the early period of the game for a while, as players do not require access to the outpost material building materials. In this case, if players decide to put modding stations on their ships, it will be worth their resources and time investment to bring their new gear up to speed so they are always up to date with the best weapons possible.

That pretty much sums up everything there is to know about modding weapons in Starfield.
