Anders admits to it upon being confronted, but they continue trying to persuade the player to keep helping them.
On the other hand, Karlach is something unknown, but still, she is honest about being Avernus’s escapee. Additionally, she clearly wants to go back there and thus avoid being captured. Most of the players will find the plight justified and then help her. However, the players doing an evil campaign will be more than happy to assist the archdevil and eliminate the innocent Tiefling.
