It looks like people are experiencing a lot of performance issues in the PC version of Amnesia : Rebirth. Could these issues be fixed? Lets find out.

Amnesia Rebirth | How to fix Lag, Stuttering and FPS Drops

After the remarkable success of Amnesia : A Machine for Pigs, a brand new Amnesia title is here. And this time is Amnesia : Rebirth. The game borrows similar elements from the previous titles and belongs to the same genre, which is Adventure-Horror.

With that being said, some players are facing performance issues like lag, random stuttering and fps drops while playing Amnesia Rebirth. Here are some basic steps to fix some of those.

Check the System Requirements of Amnesia Rebirth

  OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 10, 64-bits
  Processor: Core i3 / AMD FX 2.4Ghz
  Memory: 4 GB RAM
  Graphics: OpenGL 4.0, Nvidia GTX 460 / AMD Radeon HD 5750 / Intel HD 630

  OS: Windows 7 / 8 / 10, 64-bits

Update your drivers

Here are the links to the latest drivers for AMD and Nvidia graphics cards. They might not be specifically optimized for Amnesia: Rebirth, but it is recommended to have the updated ones:

Amnesia Rebirth – Best Graphics Settings

• Resolution : 1920×1080
• Resolution Scale : 100
• Dynamic Resolution : Off
• Display Mode : Fullscreen
• V-Sync : Off
• Framerate : 60 FPS
• Horizontal FOV : 100

Tested the game on a GTX 1050 ti. It is well optimized and runs very well, even on such a low-end graphics card.

Verify the in-games files of Amnesia Rebirth via Steam

If Amnesia Rebirth is crashing for you due to missing or corrupted files, the you can fix that by simply verify the game via Steam. Here is how to do it:

• Go to your Steam Library
• Right click on Amnesia: Rebirth
  
• Select Properties
• Click on the Local Files tab
• Click on Verify Integrity of Game File

Turn of Nvidia GFE Overlay (For Nvidia users)

I am not sure that you have noticed or not, but there are a lot of Nvidia services that would pop up whenever you turn on the Nvidia In-Game Overlay. And it makes sense as there are a lot of features and you get from GFE. You won’t realize until you check properly that there are a lot of these services and though individually they are consuming very little percentage of your CPU, when you combine them it is a hefty chunk. So try turning it off.

1. Launch Nvidia Geforce Experience
2. Click on the Settings icon on the top right corner
3. Select the General Tab
4. Turn of In-Game Overlay
5. Restart your system

Set the right Preferred Graphics Processor (For Nvidia Laptop users)

If your laptop features a Nvidia graphics card inside then you need to make sure your laptop is using that instead of the low powered integrated one.

1. Just open Nvidia Control Panel
2. Click on Manage 3D settings located on the left side
3. Select the Program Settings tab
4. Under “Select a program to customize” select Amnesia Rebirth
5. If it is not there then click on Add and then select it
6. Now set “Select the preferred graphics processor for this program” to “High-performance NVIDIA processor”

Disable Steam Overlay

The Steam Overlay is recently causing problems in a lot of games. Try turning it off.

1. Go to you Steam Library
2. Right-click on Amnesia: Rebirth
3. Select Properties
4. Under the General tab, check the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game

Turn off Windows 10 Background Recording

The Captures tool on Windows 10 often tend to take up a lot of resources and the Background Recording feature always records in the background while you are playing any game. So turn it off would immediately give you a boost. Here is how to do it:

1. Open Windows Settings
2. Click on Gaming
3. Select Captures
4. Turn off Background Recording

Close all overclocking applications

If Amnesia Rebirth is freezing a lot for you then chances are it is being caused by an overclocking application or utility running in the background. A lot of games have been suffering from this issue lately due to applications like MSI Afterburner. So it is best to stay on the safe side and run your graphics card on default speeds.

Wait for updates from Frictional Games

Amnesia Rebirth is a brand new game and that too an Indie one. Amnesia : A Machine for Pigs was developer by a completely different group of developers. Frictional Games was only the Publisher. But in case of Amnesia Rebirth, Frictional Games is both the developer and the publisher. So you can say that they are comparatively new to this.

Bugs and performance issues are pretty common in games during launches. So expect a ton of patches and updates from the developers. All you have to do is be patient and wait for the developers to address the issues. We are pretty sure that they will be releasing patchs to fix the lag, stuttering and low fps issues pretty soon.
