Splitgate Performance Guide – Fix Lag, FPS Drops, Crashing and Stuttering

Splitgate lag fps drops crashing stuttering – Splitgate: Arena Warfare is a fast-paced multiplayer shooter built in Unreal Engine 4 by 1047 Games that uses player-controlled portals to create a new dimension of arena combat.

The game is designed for both first-timers and veteran FPS players, with an infinitely high skill cap that will take players hundreds of hours to refine and master. Battle against up to 10 friends in online multiplayer, or refine your skills versus formidable AI.

Though Splitgate is well optimized for the most part, players are still experiencing minor hiccups here and there. The game has high CPU usage issues that needs to be fixed by the developers. So far the performance issues that have surfaced in Splitgate are lag, fps drops, crashes and stutters. Fortunately, all these performance issues are nothing serious and can be easily fixed with a few tweaks here and there. Here is how to fix lag, fps drops, crashes and stuttering in Splitgate:

Splitgate Performance Guide – Fix Lag, FPS Drops, Crashing and Stuttering

Method 1

Make sure your PC at least meets the minimum system requirements of Splitgate

Minimum system requirements for Splitgate:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
    • Processor: Any dual-core CPU
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 1 GB
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Storage: 15 GB available space

The game doesn’t have recommended system requirements listed anywhere. Even on its steam page, the recommended system requirements list just has ‘Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system’ written under it. So we went ahead and tested Splitgate on our trusty medium end gaming PC. Here are the specs:

  • CPU : Intel i3 8100
  • GPU : MSI GTX 1050 ti 4 GB
  • RAM : 16 GB DDR4 2400mhz
  • HDD : 1 TB 7200 rpm
  • SSD : 128 GB

We managed to get some decent frame rates on our rig. Our main goal was to see whether we can get 144+ fps in Splitgate on our mediocre gaming PC or not. Unfortunately, at max settings we barely got past 100 fps. It was hovering around 70 fps most of the time. So based on our findings, here are the recommended system requirements for Splitgate :

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel i3 8100 or Ryzen 3 1300x
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 ti or AMD RX 470
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

This is perfect if your goal is to achieve a solid 60 fps at max settings.

Method 2

Make sure your Graphics drivers are updated

Though there hasn’t been any graphics driver specifically optimized for Splitgate by Nvidia or AMD, keeping your drivers up-to-date is a good practice. An outdated driver can lead to a lot of performance issues in games. Here are the links to the latest drivers for AMD and Nvidia graphics cards:

  1. Nvidia Drivers
  2. AMD Drivers

Best Video or graphics settings for Splitgate

Here is our detailed guide to the best video settings for Splitgate. In this guide you will find every single detail about the combination of settings we decided to go with for Splitgate and will also show how much fps you will get.

Method 4

Tweak settings for Splitgate from the Nvidia Control Panel

[Note: This is for Nvidia users only]

  • Open Nvidia Control Panel
  • Click on Manage 3D settings on the left bar
  • Click on the Program Settings tab
  • Locate Splitgate from the drop-down menu under โ€œSelect a program to customizeโ€. The name should be UE4Game
  • If you cannot find it on the list, then you need to add the .exe file manually
  • Click on Add
  • Locate the folder where you have installed the game
  • Select the executable file or the .exe file, which in this case should be PortalWars-Win64-Shipping.exe
  • Once added, the program settings will now be available for the game
  • Now make the following changes:
    Maximum pre-rendered frames : 2
    Threaded Optimization : On
Power Management : Prefer Maximum Performance
Texture filtering โ€“ Quality : Performance

How to fix lag, low fps, crashing and stuttering in Splitgate Method 5

Update your Windows OS

Certain Windows 10 updates have been causing a lot of problems in various games lately. A lot of games have already taken some massive performance hits due to these Windows 10 updates in the past. So make sure that your Windows is fully updated in order to avoid such problems because just as bugs and glitches arrive with updates, their fixes arrive with updates as well. We are not sure whether Splitgate has been affected in any way by these updates or not, but it is better to be on the safe side. So check whether you have Windows updates available or not. Here is how you can update your Windows:

  • Go to Settings
  • Go to Update & Security
  • Click on Check for updates
  • Wait for the updates to get installed
  • Restart your PC

Method 6

Make sure you do not have overclocking applications running in the background

Overclocking applications, like the MSI Afterburner and Zotac Firestorm, are causing crashes for a lot of games. Unfortunately, Splitgate is suffering from the same issue. The game was crashing constantly after we overclocked our GTX 1050 ti just a little bit.

We tried to reach to a stable overclocked core clock and memory clock, but failed every time. But as soon as we reset everything and closed Afterburner, things immediately went back to normal. So try to avoid CPU or GPU overclocking.

[Note: These are all basic guides, and we have not included any advanced method because we do not want people to mess with the in-game files because it might cause the game to break down completely]

We have hopefully covered all the basic tips, tricks and methods that will help players to boost the performance of their PC while playing Splitgate and back them up towards their battle against lag and low fps.

You are good to go!
