This highly anticipated game will be available on PC and consoles, and Sniper Elite 5 will be sticking to its core elements that made this franchise a vast success. Rebellion plans to extend and improve the game’s overall experience in this instalment.
Although some players on Steam [Game release postponed on EPIC] reported that they are constantly facing crashing and launch issues with the game. Since many people face the same problems, here is a list of recommendations that you can try to fix the annoying crashing and launch issues with the new Sniper Elite 5 Game.

Make sure you have the latest Windows 10/ Windows 11 Service Pack installed
Rebellion has explicitly stated that to run Sniper Elite 5, you should necessarily run the latest version of Windows 10 or 11 and the latest Service pack installed. Please note that the game won’t run or launch if you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1. Having a 64bit OS is mandatory. I am currently running Windows 10 Version 21H2 Build 19044.1706 on my Primary Gaming PC and Windows 11 Version 21H2 Build 22000.708 on my secondary Gaming Laptop. Both of them successfully managed to launch Sniper Elite 5 flawlessly.
To see which Windows build you are currently on, type winver on your Windows Search Bar and click on the first application that shows up on top. The “About Windows” box should pop up. You can check your Windows version and OS Build details there.
Check to see if there are any pending updates. Type Windows Update on the Search bar and click on the first application. Once the window opens, click on the Check for new updates and it will download and install any pending updates. Try rerunning the game to check if you still face the launch issues.
Make sure you have the latest Graphics Drivers installed
A Game Ready driver version 512.95 is already available for Nvidia users for Sniper Elite 5. You can directly update your driver from the Geforce Experience application. Nvidia users can also download the standalone Driver by clicking here.

Get rid of all the overlays.

- STEAM – Head over to the Settings and uncheck “Enables the Steam Overlay while in Game.”

Verify Integrity of the Files
Since the game is available on the Steam platform for PC, open your Steam Game Client, right-click on the game and select properties, and a dialogue box will open. Click on the Local Files tab and click on “Verify Integrity of Game Files”.
Unplug any 3rd party Peripherals
Sometimes 3rd, incompatible party peripherals can cause conflicts which result in crashes. Plug out all the unnecessary peripherals except the mouse and the keyboard.
Update your Microsoft Visual Studio
In trying to start Sniper Elite 5, if you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”, you are missing the correct version of Visual Studio. Try downloading and installing the latest version of the Visual C++ redistributable again by clicking here.
Is Sniper Elite 5 Whitelisted on your Anti-virus software
If you are using a third-party Anti-Virus software, it is preventing Sniper Elite from launching. I’m sure you’re aware of the term “false positive”. Anti-Virus softwares today are extremely heavy, and having false positive alarms are pretty standard for them. Just disable your Anti-Virus software temporarily, and try launching Sniper Elite 5. If you see that the game is still crashing at startup immediately, then the Antivirus software is not the issue.
If you are using Windows Defender, follow these steps to add Sniper Elite 5 to its list of exclusions.
- Go to Windows 10 settings
- Click on Update & Security
- Select Windows Security from the left sidebar
- Click on Virus & threat protection
- Under Virus & threat protection, click on Manage settings
- Under Exclusions, click on Add or remove exclusions
- Click on Add an exclusion
- Select Files
- Browse your way to the location where you have installed Sniper Elite 5
- Select sniperelite5.exe
- Now, add another file
- Go to the location where you have installed Steam
- Add steam.exe
- Restart your PC
Launch Sniper Elite 5 game directly from the installation directory
Instead of launching the game from Steam, go to the location where you have installed the game. Launch the game directly by double-clicking on sniperelite5.exe. Try launching the game as an admin. Right-click on sniperelite5.exe and select Run as administrator.
Reinstall Sniper Elite 5 on a different drive
If nothing works, reinstalling might be your last resort before sending a Steam ticket. Uninstall the game altogether, leaving no traces, and fresh reinstall on a different drive and restart your PC.
