Slime Rancher 2 Best Graphics Settings to Fix FPS Drops and Stuttering

Slime Rancher 2 is an excellent new first-person life simulation adventure game from Monomi Park that’s sure to impress and delight. It’s a great follow-up to its predecessor, Slime Rancher. It’s an open-world sandbox game where you mold the slime into whatever you wish to create.

Furthermore, it features the playable character and main protagonist of Slime Rancher, Beatrix LeBeau exploring a new location called “Rainbow Island”. The game got released in early access on September 22, 2022 for Xbox Series X/S and Microsoft Windows via the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

Just like Slime Rancher, Slime Rancher 2 revolves around feeding slimes the correct food so that they can produce “plorts”, which can be sold in exchange for the currency of Slime Rancher, called Newbucks, which is required to purchase upgrades for the ranch and its equipment.

There are different kinds of slimes in the world, including some introduced for Slime Rancher 2. Slimes react and change based on what they are fed.

Now, the game runs very well on the consoles, but on PC, players are experiencing stuttering and frame drops while playing, quite frequently. Well, in their defense, Slime Rancher 2 just launched and is still in Early Access. This means there is plenty of time in the hands of the devs to optimize the game.

One of the best things about PC gaming is that even if you don’t have a powerful GPU, you can just tweak the settings a bit and get smooth performance on a mediocre-level GPU, as well.

This guide will show you the best graphics settings for Slime Rancher 2 for low-end gaming PCs. You will have a smoother experience in-game, and it might also help you eliminate various performance issues if you are having any, of course.

Fix Slime Rancher 2 Stuttering and FPS Drops

Applying the settings given above should help you squeeze out a few extra FPS. In case, if it doesn’t, here are the steps you can take to make the stuttering go away:

Update your Drivers and OS

I have tested Slime Rancher 2 on 4 different GPUs(GTX 1050 Ti, 1650, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3070) and on Lenovo Legion 5 Pro(RTX 3060m), and I can confirm that this game doesn’t have that many issues. The GTX 1050 Ti system of mine, literally has an i3 8100, and the game still ran smoothly.

So if you are facing some weird stuttering or fps drops when there is a lot of action going on your screen, consider updating your GPU drivers and OS.

Make Sure you don’t have Nvidia Instant Replay Enabled

The stuttering in Slime Rancher 2 might be taking place due to Nvidia Instant Replay constantly recording in the background.

How to turn off Nvidia Instant Replay:

  1. Press Alt+Z [You have Nvidia in-game overlay enabled if you are using instant replay].
  2. Click on the Instant Replay block.
  3. Toggle it off from there.

You need to Disable Background Recording too

How to turn off Background Recording:

    1. Go to your Windows 10/ Windows 11 settings menu.
    2. Select Gaming.
    3. Select Captures from the left.
    4. Turn off Background Recording for the menu.

If your system has 2 GPUs, select the proper GPU [For Gaming Laptops]

You may also be running your gaming PC with two video cards. Make sure the game uses your dedicated graphics card instead of the integrated one.

On my Legion 5 Pro, I have MUX Switch. So before I start gaming, I just head over to my Vantage app and turn off Hybrid Mode. This forces the laptop to use the RTX 3060 inside it only.

If you are using an Nvidia GPU, and you do not have a MUX Switch, here is what you need to do:

  1. In Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Go to Manage 3D settings.
  3. Select Global Settings.
  4. Then, under “Preferred graphics processor”, select High-performance NVIDIA processor.

Make sure there aren’t too many applications running in the background

Lastly, make sure that there aren’t many applications running in the background, and eating up all the resources of your PC.
