Second Extinction is finally out on the PC platform, and the game is doing quite well so far. It is still in Early Access, which means the game is still far from being complete and will keep on getting updates frequently.
Few minutes after the launch of the game, numerous posts started popping up on the Steam discussions page of Second Extinction, where people started complaining that the game is not running properly on their ultrawide monitors. The community didn’t take much time to figure out that Second Extinction lacks ultrawide support.
But the question is, is this merely a bug or does this game really lack Ultrawide support?
Is there a fix
Unfortunately, this is not a bug or a glitch. Second Extinction, at the moment, does not officially support ultrawide resolutions or aspect ratios. Which means people with 21:9 or 32:9 aspect ratio will have to play with black bars.
When asked, here is what a developer had to say regarding this:
Hey,
Ultrawide support is being investigated and tested, but it won’t be supported at the EA Launch on October 13th, unfortunately.
He confirmed that there is no ultrawide support. But he also said that it is being investigated. Which means ultrawide support will arrive in the near future.
Now a lot of you might ask that why don’t these games come with ultrawide support by default. Well, to answer that, here is a comment from a Steam user that explains it quite well:
According to Valve’s own hardware survey, Over 65% of users still use 1080. The amount of widescreen users is roughly ~11% of users. While it’s not small, it’s not exactly big enough to invest time into. The growth of widescreen is also less than ~0.5% for each resolution.
With that being said, it is clear that Second Extinction will get ultrawide support eventually, but not at this moment. If you are someone with an ultrawide monitor then I would recommend that you go ahead and refund that game. Unless, you don’t have any issue playing the game with black bars.
