Outriders crashing and won’t launch – This guide contains some simple and basic fixes or solutions for PC users who are having trouble trying to launch Outriders on PC due to the game crashing constantly.
I think if I just say that “Outriders is an always-online AAA game in 2021”, that would pretty much explain the whole situation. I mean, problems like these have become pretty common in AAA games nowadays. The condition is even worse in online AAA games. Just ask the players of the recent Call of Duty titles.
There is no doubt that Outriders is a phenomenal title and I can easily see this game being one of the best games of 2021. But that doesn’t mean it is perfect. The technical part of Outriders still needs a lot of polishing. The game has a fair amount of performance-related issues. I will talk about them in a different article. Right now, I am talking about the crashes and the launch issues that people are experiencing.
Now, it isn’t a secret that Outriders is a demanding title. In order to play the game at smooth 60 fps on 1080p resolution, you need to have:
- AMD Ryzen 5 1600
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB
But then, what about the people who have powerful gaming rigs? You know, people with RTX 3080s and 3090s. Why is it crashing or won’t launch for them? Well, you see the problem is, that it is hard to say specifically what is causing this issue. Startup issues can be triggered by various things. And the situation is different for different users. And if the issue is from the side of developers, then forget fixing it by yourself.
Now the main question is, are there any fixes for this issue?
Fix Outriders Crashing and Won’t Launch
Before you move any further in this guide, I would like you to make sure that you are using Windows 10. If you are not, then there is no point in reading this guide any further. Outriders runs only on Windows 10 and, that too only on the 64-bit version. The Steam page of Outriders has specifically mentioned this. There have been a “lot” of discussions regarding this on the Steam discussions page of Outriders. And I can confirm that the developers are not going to add Windows 7 support for Outriders anytime soon.
You don’t necessarily need a DirectX 12 GPU, but that does help a lot. If you are someone who uses Windows 7, 8.1 or a 32-bit OS, then you are out of luck here. Also restart your PC before you go through the steps given below.
Now, I don’t know what are the hardware specifications of your system. So it is impossible for me to know what is causing the crashes for you specifically. But judging from my experience with these issues, the majority of the time these crashing issues and “won’t launch” issues are either triggered by antivirus software, outdated drivers, or Visual Studio not being present on the system. And that is exactly what I will recommend here.
Download and install the latest drivers optimized specifically for Outriders
Nvidia has already released a Game Ready Driver for Outriders. The version is 465.89, and it got released on 03/30/2021. This new Game Ready Driver provides support for the launch of Outriders, which features NVIDIA DLSS technology. You can download it either from here or via GeForce Experience.
AMD has also released an Adrenalin Driver for Outriders. It is called Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.3.2. You can download it from here.
Your PC might be missing necessary C++ Redistributable files
Make sure that you are using the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly. Just go to this link and download the latest one. The 64-bit version is the version you should be installing. So click on the one that says “x64: vc_redist.x64“. Restart your PC after the installation is complete.
Your Anti-virus Software might be blocking the game
In some cases, the .exe file of Outriders might be getting silently quarantined by some antivirus software, preventing the game from launching. In that case, you might need to disable the Real-Time Scanning function or Real-Time Protection function of your Anti-virus to play. If you do not want to completely disable the software, then you will have to add the .exe of Outriders to the Exceptions list of your AV Software.
Instead of Steam, try running the game directly via the executable of Outriders
Try running the executable file or .exe file of Outriders as admin. Just head over to the folder where you have installed Outriders. Right click on Outriders.exe and select Properties. Now click on the Compatibility and check the box beside “Run this program as an administrator”. Start the game directly by double-clicking on the exe file, instead of launching it Steam or Epic Games Launcher.
Verify the Integrity of Game files via Steam or EGL
If you are a Steam user then just go to your Steam Library, right-click on Outriders from the list and click on Properties. Click on the Local Files tab and select “Verify integrity of game files…”.
Epic users can follow the steps below:
- Open Epic Games
- Go to your Library
- Take your mouse pointer on Outriders
- Click on the Settings icon (…) beside the Launch icon
- Click on Verify
- Restart the launcher after the process is completed
Try these for now and let me know in the comment section below whether your issues got fixed or not.
If you think this guide had helped you then let us know in the comment section below. Also, if you are facing other problems with the game then try checking out our other guides on Outriders. Who knows, you might end up finding a fix.
That’s all folks!

Shoaib, 30, is a simple guy who loves to play video games, and enjoys new cuisines sporadically. He has been gaming since he was 7 years old, and with an experience of 22 years, under his belt, there is not a single AAA game in this world, that he hasn’t played. Despite being a MBA Graduate he decided to follow his passion. And because of his love for gaming, Frondtech came into existence.
my specs:
3080 RTX evga
2×16 gb gskillz Ram
power supply 1k watts
i9 intel cpu 9900k
windows 10
custom liquid cooling
4tb memory split 2tb ssd and 2tb hhd
etc
you get the point.
i am running it off Epic games store and i click to launch the game.
it is day 2 of release i have verified all drivers and i verified the game file in epic games store and also tried reinstalling it. when i click to launch the game i get a few seconds of a black screen then the epic games launcher just pops back up and the game proceeds to never launch…. lol
good luck to everyone trying to launch and play outriders on pc this is extremely frustrating for someone who is trying to main this game on Twitch for content and have other content creators waiting to collab with me on this game. If anyone knows any fixes please email me or lmk!
Im having the same issue. Did you find a fix?
Exact same issue on nearly the exact same system. (I’m on a 3070, couldn’t find a 3080.) I can’t find a fix. Be sure to post it if you find one
Same issue. I have a i7-9700K, 32GB Ram, 5700XT. I have updated the AMD Radeon drivers to 21.3.1 and then to 21.3.2 with same issue each time. C++ redis updated and files verified.
Same issues
i9 9900k
Rtx 3070
Corsair 32 Gb
Things I have tried that have not worked:
1) resetting BIOS to default settings
2) updating drivers (the NVIDIA driver actually did need it but it still won’t start)
3) Installed on boot drive
4) ran as administrator
5) verified files
6) reinstalled C++ and updated windows
7) closed all other processes but necessary microsoft processes.
8) disabled all firewalls and antivirus
Anyone else have any ideas?
My final solution, which actually worked was to get the game refunded through Epic games and purchased on Steam. Game ran immediately. Still suffers from microstutters but runs in a playable state
