Nier Replicant – Controller not working – How to fix

Nier Replicant controller not working – Controllers not working for you in Nier Replicant? Here is a fix.

Nier Replicant – Controller not working – How to fix

The prequel to Nier Automata, Nier Replicant is finally live across all platforms and people seem to be enjoying it a lot so far. This game is a really great Action-RPG title and despite it getting a lot of negative reviews, I personally think that it lives up to the expectations.

It is true that Nier Replicant is indeed a great title. But that doesn’t take away the fact that the game is flooded with bugs and glitches at the moment. This is not surprising as bugs are quite common in AAA titles nowadays.

So it looks like controllers are not working for a lot of people. Be it a PS5 controller or a basic game pad for Windows, nothing seems to be working. So is there a fix?

How to fix the controller bug

Fortunately many users have already managed to fix to this bug, and it is quite easier than you think. Let’s take a look at the fixes recommended by the community.

Steam user /Firrew recommends:

Disable steam input:
Go into your library, right click the game, properties, controller, change enable Steam input or default settings into disable Steam input.

For my PS5 Controller linked with a usb clable worked.

Basically, you have to disable Steam input in this case. Let me elaborate the process.

  • Launch Steam
  • Go to your Library and right-click on Nier Replicant
  • Select Properties
  • Select the Controller tab
  • Now change the setting under “OVERRIDE FOR NIER REPLICANT” to “Disable Steam Input”
  • Restart Steam

Another fix comes from Steam user /Johnny Silverhand:

BTW if you have trouble with the PS5 controller like I did. Go to Big Picture mode and then select the game then controller settings, view all templates, then select XBOX One controller then apply. The game isn’t coded for PS5 controller support completely yet. Will have to do it that way if you want to play wireless.

Here is what you have to do:

  1. Launch Steam in Big Picture
  2. From the Big Picture main menu select the gear icon
  3. Under controller, select controller settings, ensure your specific controller is enabled/turned on
  4. Navigate back to the Big Picture Main menu
  5. Select Library
  6. Select Nier Replicant
  7. Click on Manage game
  8. Select Controller configuration
  9. Select Browse Configs – Templates
  10. Then select XBOX One controller and apply

And that is all you need to do. Your controllers should work normally now. This fix has already been confirmed to be working by the community members on the official Steam discussions page of Nier Replicant.
