Here are some of the troubleshooting methods that you can try out if Mortal Kombat 1 is crashing at startup or not launching:-
Meeting System Requirements
Mk1 is highly optimized if you have a decent gaming system. But still, you need to double-check whether you are meeting the system requirements.
Update Windows and Drivers
Always keep all your Core Drivers and Windows updated. Nowadays, most features and updates are not supported if you don’t have the latest version of Windows. Keep your system updated and never install unnecessary gimmicky gaming software, as those will maximize the causes of MK1 Crashes. Remember that the newer drivers will be better regarding compatibility issues and will also fix most of the Direct 3D or the Direct X Errors in MK1.
Download Drivers for Mortal Kombat 1 – Nvidia
- Nvidia already released their Driver v537.34 specifically for Mortal Kombat 1. You can download the latest driver from Nvidia’s Website.

- AMD also released their latest Adrenalin 23.9.1 WHQL Recommended Drivers for the latest AAA titles you can download from AMD’s Website.
Mortal Kombat 1 C++ Runtime Error

It means you just need to re-install Microsoft Visual Studio because there is a chance that it might not have been installed properly.
- Try downloading the latest version of Microsoft Visual Studio from the following link. Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64).
- Once you have downloaded the file, right-click on vc_redist.x86.exe and select “Run as administrator.”
- Select the Install or the Repair button.
- Restart the computer when prompted.
Antivirus Softwares
Apparently, some Anti-Virus softwares are deleting the exe file of Mortal Kombat, causing people to get an error like this whenever they try to launch the game:
Add the Mortal Kombat 1 executable files to your Antivirus Software exceptions list. You can also try pausing the protection when trying to run the game. - Firstly, open your Steam Library.

Update your Consoles
First and foremost, check if your Consoles are fully updated. Because otherwise, you will have a lot of issues while launching newer games.
If you have a PS4, then go to Settings and select System Software Update to update your last generation Playstation 4 Console.
If you have the latest PlayStation 5, go to Settings and select System Software. Click on the update system software and wait until the process is finished.
Clear Console Cache
Cache files eat up a lot of performance, and it is always recommended that you clear it every time before launching a newly installed game. You only need to switch off your console, keep it unplugged for 2 minutes, and then put it back on. This wipes off the entire Cached data that you have on your Console.

Try Rebuilding the Database [Try this at your own Risk]
This is one such fix that we recommend you do if you are aware of the technical aspects of a console. Here are the steps for rebuilding your Database completely.
- Turn off the console and unplug the power cord. Leave it like that for around 5 minutes.
- Hold the Power button after plugging in the cord, and you should hear a beep sound and one more beep at a 10-second interval.
- Once you get a display on the screen, you will be prompted to press the PS5 button on the controller.
- Select the Rebuild database options from a list of options and then Click on OK.
- Rebuilding the database takes a few minutes, depending on the Storage speed.
- After the process, try running the game again.
- Even though this is a risky process, it saves a lot of the time you would have to spend if you were to reinstall the whole Game.
