Mortal Kombat 1: Save and Config File Location

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally available, and MK fans are having a gala of a time at the moment. Despite having around 35,000 players on Steam, MK1 is already a hit, as the number of players on the Consoles is really high. Anyway, two of the most common technical items that one might need to look for while playing the game are Save and Configuration files. However, finding these files is not an easy task, and one has to have a good knowledge of navigating PC drives to locate them. This guide will help you locate your Mortal Kombat 1 Save and Config (or Configuration) file location on your PC.

Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) Save File Location

Here is where the Mortal Kombat 1 Save files are located by default:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[Folder with your Steam ID number]\1971870\Remote

You will find plenty of files inside the folder. All of those files are your save files. This is how they should look like:

Mortal Kombat 1 (MK1) Config File Location

Here is where the Mortal Kombat 1 Config files are located by default:

  • C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\MK12\Saved\Steam\Config\WindowsNoEditor

You will find plenty of config files inside the folder. But the main Config file is called “GameUserSettings.ini”. The default format of the Config file is .ini. But for some reason, if there is a need for you to edit the file, then you can do that by opening it with Notepad or Wordpad. Just ensure you don’t touch the “Engine.ini” file, as it could potentially break the game.

Now, let me make one thing clear. There is a huge chance of some players not finding the AppData folder the first time because it normally tends to be hidden. You have to make the folder visible. Here is how:

  1. Select and open any folder on your PC, whether a new or an existing one.
  2. Go to the View option on top of the folder Window
  3. You will find an option called “Show Hidden Files and Folders.”
  4. Check the box and click on Apply

If you are on Windows 11, then:

  1. Select and open any folder on your PC, whether a new or an existing one.
  2. Click on the three dots(…) on the top of the folder.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Click on the “View” tab.
  5. Click on “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” under “Hidden files and folders”.

You will find the AppData folder when you return to the C:\Users\Your username.
