How to get Forgotten Soul in Diablo 4
As we’ve just mentioned, Forgotten Souls is a salvaged type of crafting item that can be used to upgrade your gear. Still, the thing about it is that you probably won’t need it until you reach a challenging part of the storyline (usually the endgame). You’ll probably need it to upgrade some of the most powerful gear in the game, and that kind of gear typically appears when you’ve completed the main campaign, so if you aren’t at this stage or later yet, we suggest you visit this guide later!
Forgotten Souls has the best application for upgrading Legendary Gear and re-rolling gear stats. On the other hand, if you do not have any Legendary Gear, we recommend you get it by completing World Events, Dungeons, Whispers of the Dead activities, and Helltide Events. Once you’ve got some Forgotten Souls and have a Legendary type of Gear that you’re looking to upgrade, head to a Blacksmith and select the gear you want to upgrade.
Before you perform the upgrade, though, you’ll have a chance to look at the stat increase that the piece of gear would be granted if you were to go through with the upgrade. Farming these Forgotten Souls is really difficult, so we recommend that you double-check to make sure that you upgrade the right piece of gear!
Nevertheless, as we’ve just mentioned, even at that stage, that is quite a difficult item to acquire, so here are a few tips and tricks that we’ve got for you to maximize your chances of getting the Forgotten Souls in Diablo IV:
Forgotten Souls in Diablo IV only drop through Helltide events. Helltide events will spawn randomly in every zone except the Fields of Hatred and Social Hubs once every 75 minutes. They tend to last for about an hour, and the best way to farm Forgotten Souls through these events is by killing Demons. The problem here is that the drop rate for the Forgotten Souls is very low, and you might even get through the full event without getting a single Forgotten Soul.
While the event is on, you should capitalize on every opportunity. You can always loot Helltide chests, take down mini-bosses or find screaming hell vein ore deposits around you.
Helltide events
Helltide events will unlock for you once you’ve unlocked World Tier Three. You’ll get to World Tier Three after completing the main storyline and reaching level 50 or more. Once you’ve unlocked World Tier Three, you might notice that there’ll be randomized world events around the map. You can differentiate other events from Helltide events as Helltide events will be represented on the map by Lilith’s army taking over an entire region of the map of the Diablo IV realm. You can’t miss these because one part of the map will be full of demons, and trust us when we say this, it’s very visible.
As we’ve mentioned earlier, though, while in Helltide events, you can locate ore deposit veins (screaming hell veins). Once you’ve found one, break them open to have a chance to be rewarded with Forgotten Souls. Likewise, you’ll have a chance to get Forgotten Souls as drops through Helltide chests too!
NOTE: Helltide Events can be really tough to get through. Even some of the best players die in these events countless times. This might be because you must combat powerful bosses and swarms of demons. But again, the Helltide event is the only way you could get your hands on Forgotten Souls, so you might as well get used to it!
Finally, the best way among the three we’ve elaborated on above would be to eliminate demons as the chances of you getting Forgotten Souls while farming chests or acquiring it through the deposits is really low, compared to the first option.
