Helldivers 2 Performance Guide
Here are some tips and tricks to help you improve the performance issues with Helldivers 2.
First, ensure you meet the minimum system requirements to run this game. The game requires a minimum of 8GB RAM, a 4GB GTX 1050Ti, and a whopping 100GB Disk Space. The developers also recommended installing this game on an SSD rather than a hard drive. So, ensure you have ample space left on your SSD before buying this game. If you plan to play this title on an older gaming laptop, ensure you have at least a GTX 1050ti on your system. Otherwise, you might want to reconsider playing this title.
Tweak the config file to get the best performance out of your system. Trust me, this specific config fixed many stuttering and performance issues with Helldiver 2. Remember that you always make a backup copy of the Config file if you want to revert the settings to default.
Firstly, you will find the config file inside – C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Roaming\Arrowhead\Helldivers2. Remember that the AppData folder is hidden by default, and to make it visible > Go to View > “Show Hidden Items” and tick that option. Now open up the “user_settings.config” file with a notepad. You can also use the Notepad++ if you want.
Open the notepad and press the Cntrl + F button on your keyboard to find the following lines.
- particles_receive_shadows = true
- lens_quality_enabled = true
- far_scatter_enabled = true
- wind_enabled = true
- local_lights = true
- particles_tessellation = true
- color_grading_enabled = true
- heathaze_enabled = true
- post_effects_enabled = true
- particles_cast_shadows = true
- sun_shadows = true
- sun_flare_enabled = true
- particles_local_lighting = true
Change all of these above to False. However, disabling local_lights can annoy many players because the lighting might look washed out. So you can leave that particular one on if you wish to.
Also, change the variables of the following
- cubemap_resolution = [
64
64
]
Change the variables from 64 to 16.
- sun_shadow_map_size = [
1024
512
]
Change the variables 1024 to 128 and 512 to 64.
These variables are not essential textures; you can reduce or increase the size. But the skyboxes and the shadows might look blurry. So you can keep tweaking it until you are satisfied. Remember that you can continue to half the size of the variables until you are satisfied.
For example, for a 512 texture, you can use 256, 128, 64, 32, and 16. But keep in mind that beyond 16, you won’t be able to gain any performance benefits.
You can also try altering the LOD or the Level of Detail in Helldivers 2 inside this config file. LOD decides how detailed the textures should be in-game. Find these lines inside the config file and add 0 beside the equals symbol.

- speedtree_grass_shadow_lod_multiplier =
- speedtree_shadow_lod_multiplier =
Save the file and make a copy of the file saved on your desktop because game updates often revert the config settings. Reboot Helldivers 2, and all your performance issues should be fixed.
