Fix Characters Locked in Overwatch 2

After more than 6 years, Blizzard has finally released the ‘sequel’ to Overwatch 2. Well, I am not sure if it is really a sequel or not. But, the changes do make Overwatch 2 feel like a new game.

The change from 6v6 to 5v5 was huge. That change alone has transformed the way people play Overwatch. Now you only have to deal with a single Tank, and it is a blessing.

The game has already become one of the most popular games of 2022, with over 300k viewers constantly watching streamers stream the game on Twitch. Pretty sure, the playerbase of Overwatch 2 is already in millions.

As happens with any game that has just been released, there are always unresolved bugs that are eventually discovered by players and hence fixed in an upcoming update. One such thing is happening to the newly released Overwatch 2.

The new Overwatch 2 servers seemed to be facing stability issues following the release of the game on the 4th of October 2022.

Among the number of bugs people were facing, was the Characters Locked bug in Overwatch 2, so, via this article, we at Frondtech will guide you as to how you can fix the Characters Locked bug in Overwatch 2, so without further ado, here it is:

How to fix the 'Heroes Locked' bug in Overwatch 2

How to fix the ‘Characters Locked’ bug in Overwatch 2

Even if you have those characters unlocked, the game sometimes bugs out, saying that the characters are still locked. There was a previous update that aimed to fix a lot of bugs, however it seems that the update has only made things worse for the players.

It is still unknown when that’ll be fixed by the game’s developers, but we’re expecting it to be fixed very soon as a lot of the community members are facing this issue.

Moreover, there definitely isn’t a sure-shot fix to this. However, there are some things you can try that might fix the issue for you, here they are:

  • Try signing out of the game and then back in. This provides a temporary solution, as the problem fixes itself for a while.
  • Logout and re-login using your Battle.net account, and launch the game.
  • Check your account to make sure that everything else has been correctly merged, or look at where you are in the merge queue.

Once again, characters being locked is only one of the issues that the game is currently facing, it is expected that Blizzard is working on those issues and an update will soon be released that’ll fix those issues.

All we can do until then, is to try the temporary solutions we covered earlier, or just be patient for a while and wait for the update, moreover, we hope the guide helped you solve the issue.

That’s pretty much everything we had regarding how you can fix the locked characters bug in Overwatch 2.
