Starfield: Kill Shaw or Persuade in The Empty Nest?

“The Empty Nest” Quest is one of the most prominent ones in Starfield, and towards the end of it, you, along with Sam Coe, will come across a Shaw Gang Hideout while trying to get your hands on an Artifact. Further, Shaw herself will eventually appear to deal with you and your friend.

Upon confrontation, Shaw will present three options to you- To pay her 4,000 credits, To pay her with your life or to persuade her into letting you go; the choice is yours. Making the right decision here can make all the difference; hence, we’ll guide you with the best decision to make when facing this dilemma in The Empty Nest Mission. Keep reading till the end!

Kill Shaw or Persuade in The Empty Nest?

Starfield Attack Shaw or Persuade in The Empty Nest

Let’s evaluate all of our choices and compare them to the other ones to get a better perspective of the scenario. Here’s a list of all four choices to make:

To Kill Shaw

If you refuse to pay Shaw, you’ll be in a gunfight with Shaw and her bodyguards the next second. The positive side to this, though, is that this fight isn’t too hard to win, and if you manage to win it, it’s certainly got something in the bag for you. If you win, you’ll be able to loot all the bodies; from those, you’ll get a few guns and some other stuff, not too valuable altogether. Nevertheless, the guns you get off Shaw can be sold for a bit of money.

To Persuade her to let you go

To Persuade Shaw is a choice, but do know this: It will be tough to do so. You must fill four bars to persuade someone successfully, but for Shaw, you must fill six. This is slightly more difficult than talking to Jacob Coe; you could always use chems such as Hippolyta and Wine to weasel your way out of this.

If you do manage to persuade Shaw (quite a task) successfully, she will ask her bodyguards to stand down. However, this isn’t the end; she’ll ask for your help with the Ashta.

Empty Nest

Should you help Shaw with the Ashta?

It doesn’t matter what way you get out of the conversation with Shaw. Once you start to move out, you’ll notice that a pack of Ashta has shown up, and to engage with them in battle or not is completely up to you, but do know that if you do engage in battle against the Ashta, being paired up with Shaw’s Crew, Shaw will feel indebted towards you and will reward you with a special gift- A Modified Calibrated Razorback along with some ammunition. Further, you can loot the dead bodies and the Ashtas once the battle ends, so it’s a win either way. Our recommendation? Go for it!

Paying Shaw 4,000 Credits for a safe passage

The last option is to pay Shaw a total of 4,000 credits to leave; the said amount of Credits is to make up for the damages you’d have caused. You can always choose to pay the sum and move along your way, but we recommend that you don’t do this, as there are better ways.

Even if you pay Shaw, the Ashta will appear, and she will ask for your help, and the whole thing will go out, as we’ve mentioned above. In this case, you can still help her or walk away. Helping her would be better due to XP, loot, and other rewards. Plus, if you’ve just paid her 4,000 credits, you should get the most out of the scenario. Overall, paying Shaw to leave is one of the worst options on the table.

That’s everything there is to know about the dilemma of “The Empty Nest” mission in Starfield.
