Fix Warzone 2 Crashing

Warzone 2 Crashing fix – The day has finally arrived! One of the most awaited online first-person shooters of 2022 is finally here. Yes, I am talking about COD Warzone 2.0.

It is obviously a multiplayer-only game that Infinity Ward, Beenox, Treyarch, High Moon Studios, Sledgehammer Games, Activision Shanghai, Demonware, Toys for Bob, and Raven Software developed on the latest IW 9.0 Game Engine.

Although the new Warzone 2 more or less borrows the same mechanics and gameplay as compared to its prequel, COD Warzone. But the Graphics and the Shooting feel way better now.

Now that the main information about Warzone 2 has been taken care of, let’s talk about the issues of the game. Just like the previous title, Warzone 2 got released with a ton of errors on PC. Console players are not facing that many issues.

A lot of PC players are complaining that Warzone 2.0 is constantly crashing for them. For some, the game is crashing as soon as they load into a match, and for some, it is literally crashing from the menu.

That is the reason I decided to put together all the working fixes, I have seen on different Forums, Reddit, and the Steam discussions page of Warzone 2.

So, this article will guide you on how to fix the Call of Duty Warzone 2 crashing issue.

Warzone 2.0 Crashing fix

Warzone 2 Crashing Fix for PC users

Re-Optimize the Shaders

Shader Caching is actually causing crashes for a lot of PC users. So you need to delete your cached shaders and form everything from the start. To do that, you will have to restart your shaders optimization.

The Restart Shaders Optimization setting will delete your shaders cache and reoptimized all shaders from the beginning. You will have to do this every time you update your driver.

Fix Warzone 2 crashing by Restarting Shaders Optimization

How do you do that? Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Settings menu, and select the “Graphics” tab.
  2. Click on the ‘Display’ tab.
  3. Finally, I clicked on ‘Restart Shaders Optimization’.

I was actually facing crashes myself, and this is one of the methods that I did to fix the issue. The second fix that I tried was:

Upgrade to the Dev Recommended Drivers

The devs have already recommended drivers for Warzone 2. No, they are not similar to MW. These are different ones, and they came out just a while ago.

If you’re using a Nvidia Graphics card, then the recommended Game Ready Driver version for you is 526.86. Download using the link below:

Nvidia Warzone 2 Drivers

For AMD users, the recommended Driver version is Adrenaline 22.11.1. You can find the links below:

If you are already using the recommended drivers, and you are still crashing then I would suggest you downgrade your driver to an older version.

I saw a lot of users on the Steam Discussions page of Warzone 2.0 saying that they managed to fix their crashing by just changing their driver. It doesn’t matter whether you are downgrading or upgrading. Whatever GPU driver you are using at the moment, just uninstall it, and install a driver that is newer or older. Trust me, it helps.

Just give your system a Restart

I know this sounds stupid, but you have no idea how many times I have fixed crashing issues in games by just giving a PC a restart.

Restarting your system actually clears your RAM, so any issue you might be having because of that, will get completely eradicated.

Find out which application is causing Warzone 2 to crash

Now, instead of trying multiple fixes, why not try to figure out the reason behind the crashing. Yes, you can actually do that. This is a method that I figured out by myself, and it has worked for me during the Warzone release as well.

I have already included the entire process in this article. Just try to read the Second Method mentioned in the article. Just to show you how many people have benefitted using this method, here is an entire Reddit post mentioning this fix:

A Windows Service might be causing the crashes

Windows 10 and 11 services are known to cause issues in-game. Not only Windows, some services that are being run by the apps installed on your PC could cause crashing, as well.

In this case, you can try the ‘Trial and Error’ method. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Type “System Configuration” on the Windows Search Bar and open the System Configuration when it shows up on the results.
  2. Click on the “Services” tab.
  3. Tick the box “Hide all Microsoft services”, located on the bottom-left.
  4. Now click on “Disable all”. Leave PC manufacturer-related programs checked.
  5. Select “Apply” button.
  6. Try playing Warzone 2 now.

Disable Texture Streaming

Apparently, the Texture Streaming setting, when enabled, is causing Warzone 2.0 to crash a lot of users.

Try disabling it, because it is on by default for everyone who has a decent GPU. To turn off Texture Streaming:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Graphics
  3. Click on the Quality tab
  4. Scroll down until you find ‘On-Demand Texture Streaming’.
  5. Disable it.
  6. Now, scroll up and look for the setting ‘Video Memory Scale’.
  7. It should be set to 85, by default. Set it to 90, and restart the game.

Re-install Warzone 2 in a different drive (If nothing else works)

If none of the fixes mentioned above work for you, then reinstallation on a different driver is your last resort. Game installations go wrong all the time. A file might have gone corrupted during the installation process. And that might be the reason the game is crashing for you. So do a fresh installation of the game once.

Before you go for the re-installation, make sure you empty your “Temp” folder.

  • Go to the Start menu on your Desktop.
  • Press the Windows key+R at the same time.
  • Type in %TEMP% and press Enter.
  • Select All (Edit > Select All or Ctrl+A).
  • Click the Delete key.

These are all the fixes that I would like to recommend for now. One thing to keep in mind, none of these methods are advanced and are pretty basic. There is no guarantee that these steps will fix your problem 100%.

Of course, there are a ton more, that involves disabling XMP from the Bios Menu or increasing the Paging File size of your drives. But I cannot recommend them at the moment because these fixes have the potential to break your entire OS, and I don’t think that is worth it for a game.

If the issue you are facing is serious, then the best option would be to contact Activision support. I suggest you look at the official Warzone 2 Reddit, or the Warzone 2 Steam discussions page. You will find a lot of players discussing these exact same issues.

What’s new in Warzone 2?

Call of Duty Warzone 2 is an all-new free-to-play Battle Royale FPS that is available for Windows and all major consoles. The game is a sequel to the already mentioned title Call of Duty Warzone, and just like the previous Warzone title, the game is completely free. The game is set in a desert theme known as the Al Mazrah, featuring 18 different points of interest and utterly new movement mechanisms.

So what’s new? Warzone 2.0 features an all-new DMZ mode, where you can battle against the Real Players and the AI Controller Players when they attempt to exfiltrate with the collected loot.

Another new feature is “Circle Collapse”. What is it? This feature causes multiple circles appear on the map, but all converge into a single zone.

AI has been used extensively for the COD Warzone 2 game, and the AI-controlled players defend the strongest forts throughout the map. You can engage with the AI-controlled players to capture and gain access to the strongholds you can loot afterward.
