I Just downloaded the game, but now the download is STUCK on verifying, jumping between ~40 minutes to 20+ hours. This has never happened before, and i’ve tried a lot of things to fix this, and nothing has helped so far. Anybody got any tips?

I have the game installed on a Samsung 970 Evo plus NVMe M.2, and even my system wasn’t spared. While we wait for the developers to release a patch, here are a few steps that you can try to fix the issues.

How to fix the ‘God of War slow verifying’ issue

The good news is, there is a fix available for this issue. It is a simple fix, and many users have confirmed that it is working. This fix comes from Steam user /JungleJim:

God Of Wartaking forever to verify/unpack. To fix:

1. Go to Windows 10 settings
2. Click on Update & Security
3. Select Windows Security from the left sidebar
4. Click on Virus & threat protection
5. Under Virus & threat protection, click on Manage settings
6. Under Exclusions, click on Add or remove exclusions
7. Click on Add an exclusion
8. Select Folder
9. Add the steamapps folder
   
10. Pause the download on Steam
11. Start it again
