How to fix the Black Screen issue in Helldivers 2
Helldivers 2 is out and is hitting new player number records every day. But the game has a severe black screen problem. This is more apparent on PC, and players are encountering a black screen every time they launch the game. While a lot of users are suffering from this bug, a Steam user with the name /Hoptic has recommended a fix. Check it out:
ACTUAL BLACK SCREEN FIX
EDIT – I don’t believe it is the servers for the “booting the game black screen error” because when the game DOES boot you have to edit settings, visibility, etc, THEN does it bring you to the queue. I was able to BOOT the game to SEE the ACTUAL “Servers at capacity” screen.I think it’s the Gameguard, not servers. Just fixed it.
Steam > Right click game > browse local files > right click bin > select properties > uncheck read only > save save save > boot game.
You may have to do this every time you boot the game because the file permissions DO revert back to read only.
Let us break that fix down for you:
Open Steam and head over to your Steam Library. Right-click on Helldivers 2, select “Manage”, and then “Browse Local Files”. Do this, and you will land inside the installation folder of Helldivers 2. There, you will see a folder called “bin”. Right-click on bin, and uncheck “Read-only”. Save everything, and launch Helldivers 2.
According to /Hoptic, that is all you have to do. Now, we haven’t tried the fix ourselves, so there is no way we can guarantee its effectiveness, but there are plenty of users who are claiming that this is the only working fix.
One tip we would like to share, if the fix mentioned above doesn’t end up fixing the black screen for you, then try turning off every single overlay that you have. We are talking about Steam, Discord, Nvidia GFE, etc.
