It looks like a lot of players, especially the low-medium end hardware users are experiencing some good amount of problems while playing Escape From Tarkov. That is why we decided to come up with a basic lag fix guide that will show you some simple tweaks that you can try in order to fix the performance issues that you are having. Here is how to fix lag, fps drops, crashes and random stutters in Escape From Tarkov.
Escape From Tarkov โ Fix Lag, fps drops, crashing and stuttering
Step 1 โ Check the System Requirements of Escape From Tarkov
For most games I recommend looking at their system requirements first. But I couldnโt do that this time because the official system requirements of Escape From Tarkov is highly inaccurate. Lets take a look at the system requirements of Escape From Tarkov first:
MINIMAL:
- OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64 Bit)
- Processor:dual-core processor 2.4 GHz (Intel Core 2 Duo, i3), 2.6 GHz (AMD Athlon, Phenom II)
- RAM: 6 GB
- Graphics Card: DX11 compatible graphics card with 1 GB memory
- Sound: DirectX compatible audio card
- Network: permanent connection to the Internet
- Disk space: from 8 GB
RECOMMENDED:
- OS: Windows 7/8/10 (64 Bit)
- Processor: quad-core processor 3.2 GHz (Intel i5, i7), ะพั 3.6 GHz (AMD FX, Athlon)
- RAM: from 8 GB
- Graphics Card: DX11 compatible graphics card with 2 GB or more of memory
- Sound: DirectX compatible audio card
- Network: permanent connection to the Internet
- Disk space: from 8 GB
I did try running this game on a gtx 1050 ti and the performance was not good at all. If you want to check out the settings that I used then you can check this guide out.
Step 2 โ Update your graphics drivers
People often tend to ignore driver updates and sit with buggy or un-optimized drivers. Outdated drivers could be the reason behind many performance issues on your system. Therefore it is always recommended that you keep your drivers up-to-date.
Here are the links to the latest drivers for AMD and Nvidia graphics cards:

Step 5 โ Update your Windows 10 OS
Microsoft is known for releasing buggy OS updates every now and then. And the problem has only escalated on the Windows 10 OS. So check whether you have pending Windows updates or not and then update your OS. Here is how to do it:
- Go to Settings
- Go to Update & Security
- Click on Check for updates
- Wait for the updates to get installed
- Restart your PC
Step 6 โ Try using the Game Mode on Windows 10
Game mode prevents Windows Update from performing driver installations and sending restart notifications and it also helps your system towards achieving more stable frame rates depending on the specific game and system. Here is how to turn on Game Mode:
- Press the Start button
- Click on Settings
- Select Gaming
- Now select Game Mode for the side bar
- Turn Game Mode On
Step 7 โ Avoid running the game on an overclocked GPU
If by any chance you are witnessing random crashes and freezes in Escape From Tarkov then chances are it is being caused by an overclocking application or utility running in the background. A lot of games have been suffering from crashes lately due to applications like MSI Afterburner or Zotac firestorm. So just try to run your GPU and CPU at their default clock speeds and you should be good.
