Wonderlands won’t launch and crashing – Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is finally out across all major gaming platforms. The game is really awesome, and every Borderlands fan should give it a try. The only issue is, Wonderlands come with some technical issues. But, considering that it is built on the same engine that was used to make Borderlands 3, it makes sense. Borderlands 3 has many problems at launch, as well.
Anyway, some PC players are facing crashing and launch issues in the game. The good thing is, many people from the community have already recommended some fixes for that. Check them out.
How to Fix Wonderlands won’t start and crashing issues
Make sure you have the latest Service Pack of Windows 10
If you go to the Store Page of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you can see the official PC requirements for the game. Gearbox has specifically recommended that you get the latest Service Pack and Build version of Windows 10.
Wonderlands does not support Windows 7 or 8.1. Windows 10 64-bit is mandatory. And the OS Build should be at least 1909. I am currently using Windows 10 Version 20H2 Build 19042.1586 on all of my three systems, and I have successfully managed to launch Wonderlands on all of them.
In order to see which Windows build you are currently on, type winver on your Windows Search Bar, and click on the first application that shows up on top. The “About Windows” box should pop up. Check your Windows version and OS Build, there.
Install the Latest Drivers optimized for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
If you are an Nvidia user then let me tell you, that there is a Game Ready driver for Wonderlands available, now. The version is 512.15. You can directly update your driver from the Geforce Experience application. You can also download the driver directly from the link below.
At the time of me, writing this article, there is no AMD driver, that has been launched specifically for Wonderlands. Still, if you are an AMD user then you can find the latest Adrenaline driver from the link given below. Or, you can use AMD Auto Detect. Adrenalin 22.3.1 Optional is the latest version. It is an optional driver, but that shouldn’t cause any problem.
Use the “Troubleshoot” feature of Epic Games Launcher
The Epic Games Launcher has a cool feature that allows use you to troubleshoot issues related to the launcher. It checks your system requirements and checks the status of your connectivity with the Epic servers. This won’t probably do much. But at least give it a try.
- Open your Epic Games Launcher
- Click on your Profile button, located on top-right corner
- Select Settings
- Scroll down and click on “Troubleshoot”
Reset Vault Cache
On the same location, where you found the “Troubleshoot” feature, there is another option called “Edit Vault Cache Location”.
Click on it, and select “Reset”. Restart Epic after that.
Try verifying the Wonderlands files to fix crashes
Verifying the files of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands via the Epic Games launcher could fix any sort of technical issue that you are having. Here is how to do it:
- Open Epic Games
- Go to your Library
- Take your mouse pointer on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Click on the Settings icon (…) beside the Launch icon
- Click on Verify
- Restart the launcher after the process is completed
Since Wonderlands is almost close to 75 GB, the verification process might take decent amount of time, and your CPU usage might also shoot up to 90% or something. Be patient and try to avoid using any other application during the process.
Is Wonderlands Whitelisted on your Anti-virus software
Chances are, if you are using a third-party Anti-Virus software, it is preventing Wonderlands from launching. I’m pretty sure that you’ve aware of the term “false positive”. Anti-Virus software today are extremely heavy and false positives are quite common from them.
Just disable your Anti-Virus software temporarily, and try launching Wonderlands. If you see that the game is still crashing at startup immediately, then the AV software is not the issue here
If you are using Windows Defender instead of a third-party AV software then here is how to add Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands on the exceptions list of Windows Defender:
- Go to Windows 10 settings
- Click on Update & Security
- Select Windows Security from the left sidebar
- Click on Virus & threat protection
- Under Virus & threat protection click on Manage settings
- Under Exclusions click on Add or remove exclusions
- Click on Add an exclusion
- Select File
- Browse your way to the location where you have installed Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
- Select wonderlands.exe
- Now, add another file
- Go to the location where you have installed Epic Games Launcher
- Add EpicGamesLauncher.exe
- Restart your PC
Update your Microsoft Visual Studio
In the process of trying to start Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, if you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. Then, you are missing the correct version of Visual Studio.
Please try downloading and installing the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.
Launch Wonderlands directly from the installation directory
Instead of launching Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands via Epic Games Launcher, go to the location where you have installed the game. And launch the game directly by double-clicking on WL.exe. You can also try launching the game as admin. Just right click on wonderlands.exe, and select Run as administrator.
Grant administrator rights to Epic Games Launcher
Launching the Epic Games Launcher with administrator rights might solve your problems. Here is how to do it:
- Go to the folder where you have installed Epic Games Launcher
- Right-click on EpicGamesLauncher.exe and select Properties
- Go to the Compatibility tab
- Click Change settings for all users
- Under Privilege Level, check Run this program as administrator
- Click Apply
Re-install Wonderlands in a different drive [if nothing else works]
If none of the fixes mentioned above work for you then re-installing is your last resort. Game installations go wrong all the time. A file might have gone corrupted during the installation process. And that might be the reason why the game is crashing for you. So do a fresh installation of the game once.
Updates from Gearbox Software
Though, it is true, that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is kind of like a standalone DLC for BL3. It is an AAA title, nonetheless. These type of issues are really common in AAA titles nowadays. In fact, this is nothing compared to the problems people had to face during the launch of Borderlands 3. I am pretty sure that the people at Gearbox Software are constantly on their toes, addressing the issues coming their way immediately. So be patient and wait for a word from the developers. We are pretty sure that they will be releasing a patch to fix the crashing issues pretty soon.
