Watch Dogs Legion | Game won’t Launch – Failed to start | How to fix

Watch Dogs Legion is undoubtedly one of the biggest releases of this year, and you can easily tell by looking at the reviews from the community and the reviewers.

But there is a problem. A lot of posts have started popping on the forums. And what are these posts about? Well, it looks like a lot of players are having difficulties at getting the game to launch or start. For some, it could be because of the low powered hardware in their systems. But even people with really high-end gaming rigs are facing this issue. So this problem has nothing to do with PC hardware.

Now the main question is, are there any fixes for this issue? You see, the problem is, it is hard to say specifically what is causing this issue. Startup issues can be triggered by various things. And the situation is different for different users. And if the issue is from the side of developers, then forget fixing it by yourself. Still, here are some fixes that you can try.

How to fix this issue

The first thing you should consider doing is, try running the executable file or .exe file of Watch Dogs as admin. Just head over to the folder where you have installed Watch Dogs Legion. Right click on watchdogslegion.exe and select Properties. Now click on the Compatibility and check the box beside “Run this program as an administrator”. Instead of Ubisoft Connect or EGL, start the game directly by double-clicking on the .exe file.

Check whether your Anti-virus software is blocking the game/Ubisoft Connect/Epic Games Launcher or not. This has happened to a lot of games this year. The executable of Watch Dogs Legion or the launcher associated with it may be getting silently quarantined by some antivirus software, preventing the game from launching. Therefore, you may need to disable Real-Time Scanning function or Real-Time Protection function of your Anti-virus to play. If you do not want to completely disable the software, then you will have to add the .exe of Watch Dogs Legion and Ubisoft Connect/EGL on the Exceptions list of your AV Software.

If you are using Windows Defender instead of a third-party AV software, then here is how to add Watch Dogs Legion on the exceptions list of Windows Defender:

  • Go to Windows 10 settings
  • Click on Update & Security
  • Select Windows Security from the left sidebar
  • Click on Virus & threat protection
  • Under Virus & threat protection, click on Manage settings
  • Under Exclusions, click on Add or remove exclusions
  • Click on Add an exclusion
  • Select File
  • Select the .exe or executable file of Watch Dogs: Legion
  • Restart your PC

Also try downloading and installing the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.

And finally, if none of the fixes mentioned above work for you, then there is no other choice but to re-install the game completely.

If the problem you are facing is a serious one, then go here and submit a case to the Ubisoft support. And don’t forget to check out the Ubisoft Forum for Watch Dogs Legion.
