That is why we decided to come up with a Wasteland 3 Performance guide that will show you some simple tweaks that you can try in order to fix the performance issues that you are having.

Is the hardware on your PC powerful enough to run Wasteland 3?

Compare the system requirements of Wasteland 3 with the specifications of your system and make sure that performance of your hardware is identical to that on the official requirements.

Wasteland 3 – Minimum System Requirements

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3.3 GHz or better, or AMD Equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 760 or AMD Equivalent
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 52 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card

Wasteland 3 – Recommended System Requirements

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 GHz or better, or AMD Equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), or AMD RX 480 (8GB)
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 52 GB available space
  • Sound Card: DirectX compatible sound card

Windows 10 version 18362.0 is required

Though the Steam page of Wasteland 3 doesn’t mentions it, you need to have your Windows 10 updated to version 18362.0 or higher. The Xbox page has that clearly mentioned.

If you don’t know how to check your Windows build then all you have to do is:

  • Press Windows+R keys on your keyboard
  • Type winver and press enter

Your build details will pop up in a small window. It should look something like this:

Make sure your Graphics Card drivers are updated

If you are facing crashes in Wasteland 3 then that might be because of your outdated graphics drivers. Though Nvidia and AMD have not released drivers specially for Wasteland 3, it is wise to use the latest ones. Here are the links:

Repair Wasteland 3(For Xbox app users)

If you are playing Wasteland 3 on the Xbox (beta) app on your Windows 10 PC then you can actually repair the game. This will fix the game if there are any sort of missing or broken files. Here is how to do it:

  • Go to your Windows Settings
  • Select Apps & features
  • Look for Wasteland 3 from the app list
  • Click on Wasteland 3 once you find it (Just use sort by : size)
  • Select Advanced options
  • Click on Repair
  • Wait until the process is completed
  • Restart the Xbox(beta) app

Verify Wasteland 3 on Steam

  • Launch Steam
  • Go to Library
  • Right Click on Wasteland 3
  • Select Properties
  • Click on Local Files tab
  • Select Verify Integrity of Game Files

Update your DirectX version

DirectX 11 users are witnessing very high amount of crashes while playing Wasteland 3. So go ahead and update it.

Here is how to do it:

  • Go to the official Microsoft DirectX download page. Here is the link
  • Choose language
  • Now click on the download button
  • Once the download is completed, open the “dxwebsetup.exe” file
  • Follow the instructions
  • Restart your PC

DirectX 11.4 & 11.3 Only supported in Windows 10.
DirectX 12 DirectX 12 comes preinstalled with every Windows 10 installation. It cannot be used with an older version of Windows. Updates can only be downloaded through windows update as there is no standalone installer available.

Clear the temporary junk files on your PC

  • Go to the Start menu on your Desktop.
  • Press the Windows key+R at the same time.
  • Type in %TEMP% and press Enter.
  • Select All (Edit > Select All or Ctrl+A).
  • Click the Delete key.

Buggy Windows 10 updates

Microsoft released an update for Windows 10 few days ago called KB4535996. The KB4535996 cumulative update for Windows 10 heavily buggy and is causing a lot of problems for Windows users. In order to know whether your PC is already running the update:

  • Go to Windows Settings
  • Click on Update and Security
  • Click on View update history

If you see an update called KB4535996. You have to uninstall it.

On the Update History window only you will notice the option Uninstall updates on top. Click on it and from the list of updates installed select the one you want to uninstall. Right click on it and click on Uninstall.

These are all the fixed we have for Wasteland 3 at the moment. The game is brand new so expect good amount of bugs and glitches. Expect a lot of a performance patches in the next few days.
