Valheim Crashing and Won’t Launch – Players in Valheim are facing issues like crashing, launch issues, and various other errors. This guide consist of a list of those errors and how to fix them.
Valheim is Crashing for some Users and for some it won’t even Launch
Valheim is one of those indie titles that prove that you do not need a huge budget to make a successful game. Evne in its Early Access the game is doing fairly well so far. It is a great title, and I am pretty sure that people who open-word survival games like Ark, would enjoy this as well.
That doesn’t mean that the game is perfect though. Valheim has its fair share of issues. A lot of players have already started complaining about issues like the crashing and launching issues. Here are the issues that Valheim PC players are experiencing along with some steps to fix them.
Valheim Crashing fix
Valheim is crashing for some users. Here are the things you can do to fix it.
Update your drivers and operating system to resolve any compatibility issues. This should be an obvious step by now. The newer the drivers are, the better will be their compatibility.
There is a chance that the random crashes in Valheim are being caused by an overclocking application or utility running in the background. A lot of games have been suffering from crashes lately due to applications like MSI Afterburner. So it is best to stay on the safe side and run your graphics card on default speeds.
If you are getting errors like “vcruntime140_1.dll missing” or “MSVCP140.dll was not found”. The go ahead and install the latest version of Visual C++ redistributable, as there’s a chance it hasn’t been installed correctly.
Valheim won’t launch fix
Valheim won’t even launch for some users at all. Here are the things you can do to fix it.
The launching/starting failure could be due to some corrupted files in the directory. You can fix that by simply verifying the game via Steam to check whether your system is missing any files that might be causing the game to crash or freeze:
- Go to your Steam Library
- Right click on Valheim
- Select Properties
- Click on the Local Files tab
- Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files
In some cases, the .exe file of Valheim might be getting silently quarantined by some antivirus software, preventing the game from launching. In that case, you might need to disable the Real-Time Scanning function or Real-Time Protection function of your Anti-virus to play. If you do not want to completely disable the software, then you will have to add the .exe of Valheim on the Exceptions list of your AV Software.
Another thing you can do is, avoid launching the game via Steam once and try to run the executable file or .exe of Valheim as admin, directly from the installation directory. Just head over to the installation folder of Valheim > Right-Click on the .exe file > Go to Compatibility tab > Check “Run this program as an administrator”. And that is all you need to do.
Finally, if none of the fixes mentioned above work for you, then you have no other choice but to re-install the game. So try doing a fresh installation.
These are all the fixes we have at the moment for people for whom Valheim is crashing or won’t launch. We will be adding more soon. Click here to visit the Steam discussions page of Valheim, to see what others have to say regarding this issue.
That’s all folks!
