This is a journey of a stray cat who fell into this cruel world populated by machines, robots, and viruses to get back to its family. The game features an open-world third-person adventure experience by focusing more on the exploration and atmosphere elements in the game. You can control the cat, solve puzzles, cross obstacles, and traverse various platforms.
After a particular stage in the game, you will get a Drone called B12, which will help you store food items and will help you translate the robot language. You will face enemies known as Zurks, and keep in mind that these enemies attack in swarms.

- Resolution – 2560×1440 [This is my native resolution, you have to set your native monitor resolution and not lower than that to prevent blurry low-resolution images]
- Resolution Scale – 100% [Keep this as it is]
- V-Sync – Off [Always turn it off as it affects performance]
- Motion Blur – 0 [It’s my personal preference, but you can increase it if you want]
- Sharpness – Medium [I kept it that way, but you can increase or lower it down if you want]
- Effects Quality – Medium [Keep it medium to enjoy the Cybercity, especially during the nighttime]
- Shadow Quality – Low [Low Shadow quality yields better performance]
- Mesh Quality – Medium [Keep it medium and try out the game. If it still stutters, lower the settings down]
I own a GTX 1080, and I get 100+ FPS in Stray without a hitch with an older Intel Core i7 7700 and 16GB DDR4 RAM. Try out these settings, and you might hit the sweet 60FPS spot. Fix Stray Stuttering and FPS Drops
Nvidia users
Download the latest NVIDIA drivers that will provide support for Stray the Game. The version is 516.59. Download and install it manually from here or via GeForce Experience.
AMD Users
AMD users can download the Adrenalin 22.6.1 Optional version from here as it provides support for Stray. Just fill in the details, and download links should show up.
Windows Update
Go to Settings and click on the Windows Update tab. Double-check if you have any pending Windows updates left that you need to install.
Tweak the Nvidia Control Panel Settings for Stray
Here are some tweaks you can apply in the Nvidia Control Panel settings to fix stuttering and FPS drops in Stray.
- Go to your Nvidia Control Panel.
- Click on “Adjust image settings with preview” located on the left side under 3D settings.
- Select “Use my preference emphasizing” and set it to “Performance“.
- Restart Stray again, and check if you are getting the fps drops or not.
Disable Nvidia Instant Replay or Windows Background Recording
Turn off all the features like Nvidia Instant replay and Windows Background Recording. The Xbox Game Bar and Game Mode should be disabled as well.
How to turn off Nvidia Instant Replay:
- Press Alt+Z [You have Nvidia in-game overlay enabled if you are using instant replay].
- Click on the Instant Replay block.
- Toggle it off from there.
How to turn off Background Recording:
- Go to your Windows 10/ Windows 11 settings menu.
- Select Gaming.
- Select Captures from the left.
- Turn off Background Recording for the menu.
If your system has 2 GPUs, select the proper GPU [For Gaming Laptops]
You may also be running your gaming PC with two video cards. Make sure the game uses your dedicated graphics card instead of the integrated one.
If you are using an Nvidia GPU, here is what you need to do:
- In Nvidia Control Panel.
- Go to Manage 3D settings.
- Select Global Settings.
- Then, under “Preferred graphics processor”, select High-performance NVIDIA processor.
