The game is a space combat game by Electronic Arts, set in the Star Wars universe. Players get to control a wide range of Galactic Empire and New Republic navy ships to defeat their opponents in combat. As players keep on earning more exp, they keep on unlocking new weapons, shields, upgrades and various cosmetic items for the pilot and their ship.

Is your PC capable enough to run Star Wars Squadrons smoothly? The first thing you need to check, before you go ahead and try the fixes below, is whether the specifications of your PC are somewhat identical to the system requirements of the game. You need a Ryzen 7 2700X or an i7-7770 paired with a RX 570 or a GTX 1060 to play this game smoothly on 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. You also need a whopping 16 GB of RAM with that. Tweak the in-game graphics options of SW Squadrons
We are still fiddling with the graphics settings of Star Wars Squadrons. We will update this article as soon as we find the find best combination that will make the game run without any stuttering or freezing on our mediocre gaming rig. Here are the specifications of our test rig:

Upgrade your DirectX version
If Star Wars Squadrons is freezing for you, there is a chance that it is because you are running a DirectX version that is lower than DirectX 11.1.
How to check the DirectX version on your PC
Here is how to check the DirectX version that your OS is running:
- Press Ctrl+R or Windows key+R on your keyboard
- Type โdxdiagโ and press Enter
- A dialog box will appear and at the bottom of the list your DirectX version will show up
How to download the latest DirectX version
- Go to the official Microsoft DirectX download page. Here is the link
- Choose language
- Now click on the download button
- Once the download is completed, open the โdxwebsetup.exeโ file
- Follow the instructions
- Restart your PC
Use Windows 10 Game Mode
Game mode prevents Windows Update from performing driver installations and sending restart notifications and it also helps your system towards achieving more stable frame rates depending on the specific game and system.
How to turn on Game Mode
Here is how to turn on Game Mode:
- Press the Start button
- Click on Settings
- Select Gaming
- Now select Game Mode for the side bar
- Turn Game Mode On
Disable overlays
Origin
The in-game overlay of Origin is known to cause freezes and stutters in games. So the best option is to disable it. Here is how:
- Launch Origin
- Click on the Origin option located at the top-left corner
- Select Application Settings
- Click on the Origin In-Game tab
- Turn Off โEnable Origin In-Gameโ
EA Desktop
- Launch EA Desktop
- Click on the ‘icon with three lines’, located on the top-left corner of the launcher
- Select Application Settings
- Click on the Application tab
- Turn off “Enable EA Desktop in-game overlay”
Steam
The Steam Overlay is recently causing problems in a lot of games. Try turning it off.
- Go to you Steam Library
- Right-click on Star Wars Squadrons
- Select Properties
- Under the General tab, check the box next to Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game
Nvidia GeForce Experience
- Launch Nvidia Geforce Experience
- Click on the Settings icon on the top right corner
- Select the General Tab
- Turn of In-Game Overlay
- Restart your system
Terminate useless background applications and services
Users end up installing a lot of applications gradually. Multiple launchers and utilities that keep on running in the background. A lot of you might not have any idea, but there are many applications that often tend to eat up a huge chunk of RAM and CPU without you knowing anything about it. Windows 10 is filled with stuff running in the background that most of us don’t even need. As a result they start witnessing stutters and freezes in almost every game.
So check whether you have useless applications running in the background or not. You can also decide which applications you want to automatically start when you boot your system and prevent the useless ones from starting.
- Open Task Manager
- Click on the Startup tab
- Keep the applications that are important, Enabled
- Disable the rest
- Restart your PC
Disable Xbox Game Bar and Win10 Background Recording
The Xbox game bar and the Captures tool on Windows 10 often tend to take up a lot of resources. The Game bar actually has a lot of plugins running at the same time and the Background Recording feature always records in the background while you are playing any game. So turning them off would immediately give you a boost. Here is how to do it:
Background Recording
- Open Windows Settings
- Click on Gaming
- Select Captures
- Turn off Background Recording
Game Bar
- Open Windows Settings
- Click on Gaming
- Select Xbox Game Bar
- Turn it off
