You can solve the Crimson Lantern Puzzle by defeating the Cultist Leader and then retrieving the Crimson Lantern from him. It would be best to place the retrieved Crimson Lantern on a Cultist Statue to solve the puzzle.
All you need to do is put the Crimson Lantern on the Cultist Statue that is not holding anything. Remember that the Crimson Lantern can be easily obtained once you defeat the Cultist Leader. You will be able to easily recognize the Cultist Leader because of the red-colored robe.
