Resident Evil Village crashing โ A lot of Nvidia users are complaining that RE8 or Resident Evil Village is crashing constantly for them. This guide will show you some steps on how to fix that issue on PC.
Resident Evil Village (RE8) – Game is crashing for Nvidia users – How to fix
One of the most awaited AAA titles of 2021, Resident Evil Village has finally been made payable across all the major platforms. Players were eagerly waiting for the launch ever since it was announced back in 2020. The game is everything that a Resident Evil fan would want from a RE title.
But like every AAA title that have launched this year, Resident Evil Village also has its own set of issues. A lot of posts have started popping up on the Steam discussions of RE8, Reddit and other forums. And most of these posts are about the bugs and errors that players are experiencing in the game at the moment. It looks like Resident Evil Village is crashing for a lot of users who are using Nvidia Graphics cards. Yes, I am even seeing players with RTX 3070s and 3080s talk about this. This proves that this is definitely something that is not related to hardware.
I have personally played the game on a GTX 1650, and I didn’t witness any crashing or freezing during my playthrough. With that being said, here are some steps you can follow to fix the crashes.
How to fix the crashing
Fortunately there is a fix that is available for Nvidia users, and it has been confirmed to be working by many players from the community. The fix comes from a user called /MantusTobbogan:
Crashing Fix For Nvidia Users!
Alright, I made a post on this once, and nobody read it, but I’ve now helped two users solve crashing issues with this suggestion through comments on other posts. Just turn off the in game overlay in Geforce Experience;
I don’t know why, but it causes crashes on startup for some Nvidia users.
Edit: Apparently Steam overlay can also be causing the crashes, so turning that off could solve the issue as well.
It is quite an easy fix if you ask me. All you have to do is turn off the in-game overlay feature of the GeForce Experience application.
- Just launch GFE
- Go to Settings
- Turn off “IN-GAME OVERLAY”
Apparently, this fixed the crashing for users who were trying to play Resident Evil Village on an Ultrawide monitor. I would recommend that you go ahead and disable every single overlay that you have on right now. Overlays from applications like Discord, Nvidia GeForce Experience, Steam, etc., are known to cause issues in games.
Also, just to avoid more crashes in the future, download the latest Nvidiaโs Game Ready Driver v466.27, It is specifically optimized for Resident Evil Village. You can either download it via GeForce Experience, or you can visit this link to download the driver manually.

Shoaib, 30, is a simple guy who loves to play video games, and enjoys new cuisines sporadically. He has been gaming since he was 7 years old, and with an experience of 22 years, under his belt, there is not a single AAA game in this world, that he hasn’t played. Despite being a MBA Graduate he decided to follow his passion. And because of his love for gaming, Frondtech came into existence.
This is placebo. Overlay does not cause crashing.
Nowadays, overlays are one of the main reasons behind crashes. A lot of games don’t work well with overlays.
