Persona 5 Strikers – How to fix FPS Drops, Lag and Stuttering

Persona 5 Strikers FPS drops Lag Stuttering fix – This performance guide will show you some steps to possibly fix performance issues like fps drops, lag and stuttering problems in Persona 5 Strikers PC.

How to fix FPS Drops, Lag and Stuttering in Persona 5 Strikers

Have you compared the System Requirements of P5S with your hardware specifications?

I have said it in my other Persona 5 Strikers guides and I will say it again. Make sure that your system is capable enough to handle the game. If it isn’t then there is no point trying the fixes below. What are the P5S recommended system specs you ask?

Minimum:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: 8.1, 64bits
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 / AMD FX-6350
    • Memory: 6 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB)
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 25 GB available space

Recommended:

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: 10, 64bits
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 / AMD FX-8350
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 (2 GB) / AMD Radeon HD 7970 (3 GB)
    • DirectX: Version 11
    • Storage: 25 GB available space

I don’t necessarily think that the official system requirements are accurate though. There is no way Persona 5 Strikers runs at 1080p 60 fps on a GTX 680 and an i5-3470. This game can get extremely demanding at certain instances. So here is what I think, should be the recommended system requirements.

Recommended:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-but
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 / Ryzen 5 1600
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (3 GB) / AMD RX 570
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Storage: 25 GB available space

Persona 5 Strikers – Best Graphics Settings

The game is still being tested on a GTX 1650. The benchmark results will be posted soon.

Rendering Scale bug

There is a bug with the Rendering Scale setting in this game is causing the value of the setting to become double. And it is causing the game to performance really badly for some users.

Fortunately there is a fix available for this bug, and it has been proven to be working by many users. Here is the fix suggested by Steam user /Apollo:

So if you initially played the game and was able to run it at let’s say 4K 60FPS, had a break, then came back to it and found that your performance is halved. Then you tried changing the Resolution Scale from 2.0 all the way to 0.5 but made no difference.

This is probably because the Resolution Scale that you see in the menu is not the same of what is actually set in the config.xml file that can be found at: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\SEGA\Steam\P5S

For instance, when i first played the game, I had the resolution scale at 1.0 and the game ran fine at 4K 60FPS. Then I took a break then came back to the game and now my performance is a lot worse. Checking the config.xml file I found my Resolution Scale has been set to “20” (which corresponds to 2.0) when the in-game options still says it is 1.0.

When I change the Resolution Scale to “15” in the config file, the in-game option now correctly states 1.5 Resolution Scale.

Try changing some values in the config file, hopefully that might fix your performance.

Close all Third-Party demanding applications running in the background

Third-party programs running in the background can interfere with our games. Close all other applications to resolve software conflicts and free up resources. Now that you have closed the unnecessary programs. Follow the steps below:
  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the Task Manager.
  2. Click More Details.
  3. Select the Startup tab.
  4. Right-click on each item and select Disable.
  5. Restart the computer.

If this resolves the issue, enable the startup application one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem. You will need to restart between each application you enable.

Turn off various overlays and Windows background recording

Close all the different overlays that you have enabled on your system. That include Steam, Discord, Nvidia GFE, AMD. Overlays are known to cause stutters in many games. So try to avoid them if your system is not high-powered.

The Captures tool on Windows 10 often tend to take up a lot of resources and the Background Recording feature always records in the background while you are playing any game. So turn it off would immediately give you a boost. Here is how to do it:

  1. Open Windows Settings
  2. Click on Gaming
  3. Select Captures
  4. Turn off Background Recording

These are all the fixes that I would recommend you try first. Yes, there are some other fixes as well. But, I couldn’t recommend them as there is no proof of them working. I am constantly keeping an eye on the Persona 5 Strikers community. And as soon as I find something that is guaranteed to work, I will post it here.

Let me tell you that Persona 5 Strikers incorporates a third party Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM.
Persona 5 Strikers - Denuvo DRM

If you don’t have any idea about what that is, then let me tell you that Denuvo is an anti-tamper technology and a digital rights management scheme that is known to protect games against piracy. It is infamous for causing horrible performance related issues in games and the problems you are experiencing with Persona 5 Strikers, might just be because of Denuvo.
