How to fix the high GPU usage issue in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous

Pathfinder 2, or the sequel to Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Wrath of the Righteous, is finally out on PC. And let’s just say, the release is not treating every user right. The game has some good amount of technical issues that the developers need to address as soon as possible. I have already covered some errors in my other Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous articles. Now, it is time to look at the high GPU or high CPU usage issue in the game.

Already, a lot of posts have started popping up on the Steam Discussions page of the game. And most of them are about users complaining how they are getting high GPU or CPU usage while playing the game. Take a look at this post from Steam user, you might be able to relate:

High GPU

Anyone else getting 100% GPU usage in the menu for some reason?

(For reference, I updated my graphics driver just to and it didn’t help.)

At this point, I am not even surprised, to be honest. Problems like these have become very common in games nowadays. In the last three or four weeks, I have played 4-5 games with the exact same issue. New World beta, Bless Unleashed, Back 4 Blood beta, high GPU or CPU usage in all of these games. And I think I know the reason why users are experiencing high GPU usage in Wrath of the Righteous. You see, the game is based on the Unity Engine, and this problem is extremely common in games made on Unity. Now the question is, can this issue be fixed?

The fix

You can easily fix this issue by limiting the fps in the game. I have an Nvidia GPU, so I will show you how to do it using the Nvidia Control Panel:

  1. Open Nvidia Control Panel and select Manage 3D settings from the left side
  2. Click on the Program Settings tab
  3. Add Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous from the list of programs under ‘Select a program to customize:’
  4. The settings below should become available for the game
  5. Look for the ‘Max Frame Rate‘ setting, turn it on, and set the limit to 60 fps
  6. Now, look for the ‘CUDA – GPUs‘ setting, select your dedicated GPU there, if it is set to ‘Use global setting (All)’ by default
  7. Finally, look for the ‘OpenGL rendering GPU’ setting, and select you dedicated GPU there also

  8. Apply the settings

You should be good now. This should also fix your high CPU usage issue. AMD users can also do something similar to limit the fps. If you continue getting high GPU usage, even after following the steps given above. I would suggest that you lower down the graphics settings of the game. Just go to your Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous graphics settings menu, and set Graphics Quality to Low. It should work.

Try these fixes for now, and let others know in the comment section below if your problem got solved or not. Also, for more Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous technical guides, keep an eye on Frondtech. Good luck!
