Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin launched just a while ago, and so far the launch looks quite promising. The game has got some decent reviews and the MH fans are also enjoying the game.
The game got launched for two platforms. Windows and Nintendo Switch. While the game runs flawlessly on Switch, some PC users are experiencing some technical errors with the game.
A lot of players are getting an error message about a video codec called WMVideo Decoder. Here is what the situation is all about. As soon as you start the game by pressing the ‘Play’ button on Steam, you should get a message that says:
You need to install
“VIDEO CODEC : WMVideo Decoder”
to start the game.
What is WMVideo Decoder
Well, it is nothing but a video codec that your system requires to run the game. This is actually quite common with Capcom games now. Resident Evil 8 also needs WMVideo Decoder to run.

How to fix
The fix is quite easy. The video codec could be easily obtained from the Windows Media Feature Pack. Go to the download page, select the latest edition (May 2019), download and install it. Restart your PC while you are at it. And that is all you need to do.
