Microsoft Flight Simulator download stuck – Is your Microsoft Flight Simulator download stuck on Steam or the Xbox app? Is there a fix? Lets find out.
Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 – Download Stuck – How to fix
Microsoft Flight Simulator has to be one of the biggest releases of 2020. Ever since the trailer debuted in 2019, the game has managed to create some decent amount of hype in the community.
Apparently a lot of people who bought Microsoft Flight Simulator on Steam or the Xbox app, are facing an issue where the downloading of the game is getting stuck after a certain point. No matter what they do, the installation bar is reluctant to make any sort of progress.
People have been trying all types of things. Like pausing and then resuming the download, restarting the download, restarting Steam, restarting the Xbox app, restarting their PC, etc. But nothing seems to help.
So is this some sort of a bug or glitch? Well, the truth is this is neither a bug nor a glitch. If you go and look at the download folder of Steam you will notice that there is nothing over there. Steam will actually download the installer file first. And once the downloading is completed the unpacking will take place.
When Steam or the Xbox App is showing that MSFS is still being downloaded, that is not what actually is happening. It is unpacking the game instead.
The file size of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is a whopping 150 GB. So all you have to do is wait for a while. The process is really fast on a SSD but HDD users would have to be a bit patient.
If you check out the discussions page of Microsoft Flight Simulator on Steam. You will get a good idea about the situation.

Shoaib, 30, is a simple guy who loves to play video games, and enjoys new cuisines sporadically. He has been gaming since he was 7 years old, and with an experience of 22 years, under his belt, there is not a single AAA game in this world, that he hasn’t played. Despite being a MBA Graduate he decided to follow his passion. And because of his love for gaming, Frondtech came into existence.
(XBOX APP download) I let it run and it didn’t start again, it did come up with a message “DEBUG: $$:Something went wrong with the download, see 499” Solution: delete the last file it downloaded, that seems to have kicked it into gear again
After deleting the file, Do I have to restart the launcher?
Mine is doing the same,Where did you go to delete the last file downloaded?
Check the folder you set for install. Files awaiting de-compression will be in the official directory. Simply arrange by time/date modified and delete the most recent file.
That seems to have fixed the 499 error for me too. For others’ benefit, if you bought from the Microsoft Store rather than Steam, the default install path is: C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\Packages.
Obviously [YourUsername] is a placeholder. You’ll also need to check the ‘Hidden Items’ checkbox in Windows Explorer’s View tab to see the folders.
Meh….”SSD” or “HD” isn’t the most likely bottleneck. The most likely reason for slow or erratic download speeds is the user’s internet connection and all the related connections between the user and the Microsoft servers. Data transfer speeds on those links can vary all over the place, depending on time of day and number of users connected.
These files download into your %APPDATA% folder then copy into your updates folder after the file transfer is complete.
In my case I had to go to C:\Users\Eduardo Torazzi\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore
and delete the last file it had installed (The most recent one)
I set the install path for the update to be on a separate SSD, dedicated for this game (D:\FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2020). My files were then under D:\FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2020\Official\OneStore\ and I deleted the last file it had installed (called “fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspackage.021”), then I restarted the FS2020 and it worked, now it picked back up where it left off, installed __fspackage.021, and continued with the process. Very interesting, I wonder what caused this error
Has anyone the folder?
Just purchased MSFS this afternoon, Aug 18th, and am not sure how to proceed with its download. Any ideas?
Where do I find “%APPDATA% FOLDER?
Open up the finder and go to the “View” tab at the top and select the checkbox that says “Hidden Items”
Click on your C drive in the finder (or whichever drive Windows is installed on)
From your C drive, click on “Users” then click your profile
From there, you should see “AppData” (it will have a transparent folder icon).
But for me, I set the install folder for Flight Sim 2020 to be located on my D drive. The packages that are installed are installed wherever you select them to be and are in the “Official\OneStore” directory. If anyone else has this problem, the last file downloaded was called “fs-base-cgl-0.1.21.fspackage.021”
This was my install/update directory, where I found the files that were installed:
D:\FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2020\Official\OneStore\
After deleting the last folder it downloaded, Do I have to restart the launcher?.
i got also “something went wrong with the download, see 499” i delete de files but nothing do.. haw can i make ?
