Why Mafia Definitive Edition looks blurry?
Mafia Definitive Edition finally got released on all platforms and we have to say that the game has managed to garner some really good reviews. But that doesn’t stop the game from having performance issues like lag, random freezes, etc.
A lot of Windows users might have already noticed by now that the textures of Mafia DE appear to be blurry. And the problem doesn’t go away even with all the video settings set to the highest possible quality. At some portions of the game people are noticing that some buildings are completely blurry and washed out. Actually this is nothing new, Mafia games have been known to appear a bit blurry. Mafia III had the exact same issue. It is due to the anti-aliasing setting of game. The game is forced to appear blurry due to it’s really bad AA solution.
This is really disappointing as the system requirements of the game are fairly high. People who are playing this game on 4k resolution might not notice any difference. But people who are on 1080p monitors are really experiencing the blurriness. So is there a fix?
How to fix the blurriness
People have actually been posting left and right about this issue on the forums. There are multiple posts regarding this on the Steam Discussions page of Mafia DE.
The good news is, many users have actually managed to fix this issue and it is nothing more than few tweaks here and there. Here is a fix suggested by a Steam user with the name Aleksondos:
No problems on my end. Looks amazing. I turned “Motion Blur” and “Depth of Field” OFF and “Anti Aliasing” to LOW. Looks perfect with these settings. Love the game so far!
So, all you need to do is go the display settings menu and make the following tweaks:
- Turn Motion Blur off
- Turn Depth of Field off
- Set Anti-alising to low
If the tweaks given above don’t work for you then you can make the game look sharper via the Nvidia Control Panel. Here is how to do it:
If you are an Nvidia user then here is how you can increase the sharpness of the game:
- Launch Nvidia Control Panel
- Click on Manage 3D settings
- Click on the Program Settings tab
- Locate Mafia DE from the drop down menu under “Select a program to customize”
- If you don’t see the game on the list then click on the Add button and another list will appear
- If you still cannot spot the game then you need to add the .exe file manually.
- Click on Browse
- Locate the folder where you have installed the game
- Select the executable file or the .exe file
- Once you have successfully added the game, you will then see the program settings become available for the game
- Now click on Image Sharpening
- Turn it on
- Set Sharpen to 0.60
- Set Ignore film grain to 0.17
