Kingdoms of Amalur (KOA) – Re-Reckoning 2020 – Crashing at Launch – How to fix

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning finally got released and the game is doing quite well so far. Of course it is nothing but a remaster of the original title that was released in 2012.

Re-Reckoning brings very less changes on the table. Which means the game is mainly for those who thoroughly enjoyed KOA Reckoning and want to experience it again. And for those who didn’t play the game at all. If you have already played the 2012 version and thought the game was average, this is probably not for you.

It looks like, just few hours after the launch, people have already started facing performance related problems. A lot of players have started complaining over the forums that the game is constantly crashing for them whenever they are trying to launch.

Whenever they are trying to start the game via Steam they are getting a Black Screen or a window followed by an error message that says :

The game crashed.

How to fix this issue

Now a lot of people might think that the crashes are related to their hardware. But it is not, as a lot of people with extremely high-end systems are also facing crashes. Fortunately, users have already figured out a fix for the crashes.

A Steam user has already made a post regarding this issue and it looks like some other users have already suggested him some fixes. And the best part is the user himself has confirmed that it has worked for him.

So an user called Gambawobo commented this on the post:

OK not sure if this will be the same for you guys but for me closing out of MSI Afterburner/Riviatuner Statistics now lets me get into the game.

And that is it. That is the fix. You have to close all type overclocking or performance stats utilities that you are running on your system at the moment. Actually this is a problem with a lot of games. Titles these days face conflict from overclocking apps every now and then. So it is better to keep them off. Here is the link to original post.

Another fix has also been recommended but there is no confirmation whether it works or not. Here, all you have to do is verify the game.

  • Go to your Steam Library
  • Right click on Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning
  • Select Properties
  • Click on the Local Files tab
  • Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files

All these fixes have been suggested by actual players from the community and are confirmed to work. If none the fixes mentioned above work for you then you can submit a ticket to THQ Nordic support. You can also visit the official Steam Discussions page of KOA Re-Reckoning if you want.
